The Nor 31 occurrence is located approximately 800 metres northwest of the south end of Bluey Lake.
Regionally, the area is underlain by the Upper Triassic Nicola Group, which regionally consists of alkalic and calc-alkalic volcanics and intrusions of island arc origin, and which is the principal component of the Quesnel terrane in southern British Columbia (Geological Survey of Canada Maps 41-1989, 1713A). The area lies in the Central Belt or facies of the Nicola Group (after Preto, Bulletin 69). This belt of rocks mainly consists of subaerial and submarine, red or purple to green augite plagioclase porphyritic andesitic and basaltic flows, volcanic breccia and tuff, and minor argillites and limestone. The volcanics are intruded by bodies of comagmatic Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic diorite to monzonite. The area is characterized by long-lived, primarily north-striking faults and related fracturing, which originally controlled intrusion emplacement. East-striking faults are subordinate, and commonly offset intrusive contacts.
Locally, chalcocite occurs in several shear zones, 1.5 to 1.8 metres wide and trending 170 degrees, in red volcanic breccia and lahar of the Upper Triassic Nicola Group (Central Belt, Bulletin 69). Chalcocite is disseminated and in calcite veins within the shears. A narrow section of good-grade material was traced for 76 metres.
Approximately 350 metres west-northwest, several trenches expose chalcopyrite and malachite in porphyritic andesite.
In 1985, three of five rock samples (2279, 2287 and 2290) from the main zone assayed 0.170 to 0.960 per cent copper, whereas four of eight rock samples (2263 and 2268 through 2270) from the western trenches assayed 0.113 to 0.445 per cent copper (Assessment Report 14141, Figure 5b). Also at this time, a rock sample (2276), taken several hundred metres south-southeast of the western trenches, yielded 1.659 per cent copper (Assessment Report 14141).
In 1987, three rock samples (6757, 6729 and 91250) from the main zone yielded from 0.179 to 0.337 per cent copper, whereas a sample (6730) from the western trenches yielded 0.463 per cent copper (Assessment Report 17118).
