The Marn 16-18 occurrence is located approximately 4.0 kilometres north of the north end of Brenda Lake and 2.5 kilometres east of Pennask Creek.
The area is situated in the vicinity of the contact between tuffaceous siltstone and bedded ash tuff of the Upper Triassic Whistle Creek Formation (Nicola Group) and coarse-grained, hornblende porphyritic granodiorite of the Lower Jurassic Pennask Batholith. The siltstone and tuff are contained in a large pendant of Nicola Group volcanics and sediments lying immediately southwest of the occurrence.
Locally, a granodiorite is cut by fractures and quartz±orthoclase veins, 1 to 2 centimetres wide, containing blebs and plates of molybdenite and blebs of chalcopyrite and pyrite. Minor chalcopyrite occurs along chlorite±pyrite and epidote±pyrite fractures and stringers. The mineralized veins and fractures are widely spaced and have various attitudes. The mineralization is exposed over 45 metres along the southeast-striking granodiorite-siltstone contact, usually within tens of metres of the contact. Traces of chalcopyrite are also found within the siltstone. Diamond drilling intersected traces of chalcopyrite and molybdenite in three holes spaced over a distance of 150 metres.
In 1966, a bulk sample of mineralized granodiorite assayed 0.088 per cent molybdenum and 0.045 per cent copper (Assessment Report 875, part 2, page 9).
Work History
In 1966, Klen-Glen Mines Ltd. completed a program of geological mapping, soil sampling, trenching, 445.6 metres of diamond drilling, 671.3 metres of percussion drilling and a 59.2 line-kilometre induced polarization survey on the area as the Cam, Marn, Rob and Visc claims. Also at this time, Fleetwood Resources completed a 28.8 line-kilometre airborne magnetic survey on the area immediately south of the occurrence as the Slim property. The following year, Largo Mines Ltd. completed a 15.7 line-kilometre induced polarization survey on the Slim, Lake and FWP claims. In 1969, Largo Mines Ltd. completed a soil sampling program on the area as the Kom, Slim and Kip claims.
In 1979, the occurrence was re-staked by Brenda Mines Ltd., operator of the nearby Brenda mine (MINFILE 092HNE047). The company soil sampled the area in 1980 and 1981.
In 1994, Cominco completed a 10.7 line-kilometre ground induced polarization survey on the area as the Pinnacle claims. During 1991 through 1996, Fairfield Minerals Ltd. conducted programs of prospecting, geochemical (rock, silt and soil) sampling and minor trenching on the area immediately south of the occurrence as the Pen claims.
During 2006 through 2012, Bitterroot Resources completed programs of rock, silt and soil sampling, geological mapping, trenching, 147.6 line-kilometres of ground magnetic surveys and a 66.2 line-kilometre ground induced polarization survey on the area as the North Brenda property.
