The Turret occurrence is located in the head waters of Suicide Creek on the eastern slopes of Handsome Mountain. The showing has been explored in conjunction with the nearby Toq (MINFILE 092F 542) and Lucky (MINFILE 092F 034) occurrences. A complete exploration history can be found there.
The area is primarily underlain by metavolcanic rocks of the Upper Triassic Karmutsen Formation, Vancouver Group. Overlying the Karmutsen rock is the Upper Triassic Quatsino Formation, also of the Vancouver Group, consisting of massive limestone.
Locally, a gold-bearing quartz vein is reported to occur in massive fine-grained volcanic flow rock. The vein is a west trending structure which outcrops in cliff faces and appears to have a maximum width of one third of a metre.
In 1983 and 1984, Victoria Resources completed programs of rock and silt sampling on the area as the KO claim.
In 1985, Falconbridge and Electrum Resources completed programs of geochemical sampling, geological mapping and ground geophysical surveys on the area. This work identified the showing and a sample of the vein assayed 0.82 grams per tonne gold and 0.55 per cent copper. Three different float samples, apparently from this vein, assayed as high as 1.23 per cent copper, 1.99 per cent zinc, 19.2 grams per tonne silver and 2.06 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 15685).
In 1988, Freemont Gold Corp. acquired the property and completed programs of geochemical sampling and ground geophysical surveys. In 1996 and 1997, Consolidated Logan Mines Ltd. completed programs of geochemical sampling and a high resolution helicopter magnetic survey on the area as apart of the Lucky Project. In 2009 through 2011, Electrum Resources completed programs of geochemical sampling and geological mapping on the Lucky property.
