The Orphan Boy (L.298) occurrence is located northwest of a creek flowing into Snug Basin, approximately 1 kilometre east of Henderson Lake and 27.5 kilometres southwest of Port Alberni.
The area is underlain by Upper Triassic Vancouver Group rocks consisting of volcanics of the Karmutsen Formation, and a north trending band of limestone of the overlying Quatsino Formation. This limestone band is overlain to the east by volcanics of the Lower Jurassic Bonanza Group. The strata is intruded by diorite and granodiorite of the Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite, resulting in the recrystallization of limestone and tuff. The limestone involved in this skarn deposit may be from the Quatsino Formation or from limestone beds found in the upper part of the Karmutsen Formation.
Locally, skarn zones are reported to have formed along limestone contacts. They are composed of epidote, ilvaite, garnet, quartz, pyroxene and minor amounts of pyrite, chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite and magnetite. Chalcopyrite is most often associated with ilvaite in the skarn zones. The zones are reported to be small, lenticular and irregular in distribution.
The area was originally explored in 1899 and 1916. In 1965, Alberni Mines completed a program of geological mapping, geochemical sampling and a ground magnetometer survey. A sample taken across 90 centimetres assayed 0.17 grams per tonne gold, 39.43 grams per tonne silver and 2.35 per cent copper (Assessment Report 777).
In 1969 and 1970, Nootka Explorations completed a program of rock and soil sampling, geological mapping and a ground magnetometer survey on the area as the Henderson property.
In 2007 through 2013, Nahminto Resources completed a program of prospecting, geological mapping, geochemical sampling, a ground magnetometer survey and airborne geophysical surveys on the area as the TJM claims, part of the Nahmint property. In 2013, Equitas Resources Corp. conducted geological mapping, rock, soil and stream moss mat sampling at the Three Jays North area of the Nahmint property.
In 2020 a structural analysis via photo interpretation and minor prospecting and stream and rock sampling were conducted on the Nahmint property for tenure holder B. McKinney.
