The Vivian occurrence is located on the Tsowwin River, between North Tsowwin and Quarry creeks.
The area is underlain by Upper Triassic Vancouver Group volcanics and sediments comprised of Karmutsen Formation basalts and the Quatsino and Parson Bay formations carbonates and clastics. Granodiorite of the Early to Middle Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite and Eocene Catface or Mount Washington Intrusions has intruded the Vancouver Group rocks.
Locally, a 5 to 10 centimetre wide quartz-calcite vein within a shear zone, striking 320 degrees and dipping 80 degrees northeast, is hosted by weakly altered volcanics. The volcanics are described as a plagioclase crystal tuff within carbonates of the Upper Triassic Vancouver Group, Quatsino Formation. A 250 by 500 metre hornblende-diorite to hornblende-monzonite Eocene Catface (?) intrusion immediately south- east of the vein.
In 1983, re-sampling of the adit gave an assay of 16.89 grams per tonne gold and 14.39 grams per tonne silver. Selected samples from the dump assayed 133.67 grams per tonne gold and 454.13 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 12058).
In 1992, grab sampling yielded values up to 271.7 grams per tonne gold and 3,480.0 grams per tonne silver from dump material of a previously unknown collapsed adit along the trend of prospect pits. The same year, sampling of the Vivian vein between the southern adit and the Tsowwin River yielded values up to 114.2 grams per tonne gold, 486.9 grams per tonne silver, 0.428 per cent lead and 0.491 per cent zinc (Assessment Report 22335).
On the south bank of the river, an inclined shaft was sunk and is now flooded. On the north bank, a sample of this material assayed 68.8 grams per tonne gold (Geological Survey of Canada Memoir 272, page 54). The extension of the vein was explored along strike over a distance of 53 metres by open cuts at 8.0 metre intervals. Results were not available.
Sixty metres to the northwest, a 15 metre adit exposed the vein in the back of the drift. At the face, it measures 20 to 30 centimetres wide and consists of quartz and calcite, with no visible sulphides. Assay results of loose quartz vein material from the adit yielded 1.85 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 22335).
The EL (Lower Quarry) zone is approximately 300 metres northeast of the former shafts at an elevation of 300 metres. The zone consists of several narrow quartz veins within a shear zone located to the east of the Vivian Vein and paralleling its trend. In 1981, a sample, NAB 15, of vein material assayed 123.1 grams per tonne gold and 78.9 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 10157). In 1983, a sample (KR 052) yielded 76.9 grams per tonne gold and 46.1 grams per tonne silver, other samples yielded up to 253.5 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 12058).
During 1979 through 1981, Pan Ocean Oil completed programs of geological mapping and geochemical sampling on the area as the Tah 1-19 claims. In 1983, Aberford Resources continued on the previous mapping and sampling programs. In 1984, Homestake Canada completed a program of geological mapping and rock sampling. In 1987, the Vig 6 property was staked to cover the occurrences and a program of rock and soil sampling was completed. In 1992, a program of geological mapping, prospecting and geochemical sampling was completed. In 2007 and 2008, Silverlake Capital completed programs of geochemical sampling and geological mapping on the area. During 2009 through 2013, Homegold Resources completed programs of prospecting, historical literature reviews and air photo interpretations on the area as part of the Head Bay property.
In 2012, Canadian Dehua International Mines Group Inc. completed air photo interpretation on their Head Bay Property, covering the Glengarry and Elaine past producers, the Rob Roy, Head Bay and Vivian prospects, and the Mohawk, Middle Quarry, Upper Quarry and North Tsowwin showings. In 2014 Pioneer Exploration Corp. on behalf of Canadian Dehua completed GPS grid-based geological mapping, soil and stream moss mat geochemistry and ground magnetics covering the Glengarry past producer, and the Rob Roy and Head Bay prospects; and limited prospecting and stream moss mat geochemistry near the Vivian prospect. In the Vivian area, a new Fe/Zn Skarn target (Menace) was discovered, and yielded 4.29 ppm silver, 98.3 ppm cobalt, 336 ppm copper, 5700 ppm lead and 6.98 percent zinc in a rock sample.
In 2015 geological mapping was conducted and 187 soils and 14 rock samples were taken over the Vivian target area for Canadian Dehua. Soil sampling determined two large clusters of elevated multi-element anomalies (South Skarn Target - 500 x 400 metres; North Skarn Target - 400 x 200 metres). In 2019 rock chip sampling was conducted over a new road cut by geologist A. Kikauka. One sample analysed had elevated gold values of 0.07 grams per tonne and 1.5 parts per million tellurium.
