The Vine 17 occurrence is located west of Peavine Creek, approximately 6.3 kilometres north of the creek mouth on Moyie Lake.

The area lies within the central portion of the Purcell Anticlinorium which consists of argillites, quartzites and related intruded gabbro sills and dikes of the Helikian Aldridge Formation (Purcell Supergroup).

Locally, as identified by drilling, sphalerite-galena-pyrrhotite mineralization appears to be stratiform but is reported in association with a calcite-bearing vein which was intersected immediately below the mineralized horizon in a massive quartz wacke and thin bedded wackes of the Helikian Aldridge Formation (Purcell Supergroup). The stratigraphy dips gently to the northeast and strikes generally northwest.

In 1979, a drill hole (V-79-1) intercepted sulphide mineralization, from 467.02 to 467.41 metres, averaging 0.013 per cent lead and 0.209 per cent zinc over 0.39 metre (Assessment Report 7677).

The area has been explored in conjunction with the Vine 1 occurrence (082GSW050). In 1968, Placid Oil completed a 155-line- kilometre induced polarization survey on the area immediately northwest of the occurrence as the Jill claims (Assessment Report 1670). This program identified five anomalous zones. In 1978, Cominco completed a program of geological mapping (Assessment Report 7087). The following year, a lone drill hole (V-79-1), totalling 544.5 metres, was completed on the Vine 17 claim (Assessment Report 7677). In 1993, Cominco completed a 23.2 line-kilometre ground electromagnetic survey on the area (Assessment Report 23134). In late 2013 and early 2014, PJX Resources completed a gravity survey on the area (Assessment Report 34937).

In 2013/2014, PJX Resources Inc began a large program of gravity and magnetic geophysical surveying to detect dense subsurface features on their West Basin and Vine properties (Assessment Report 34937); surveying continued into 2016 (Assessment Reports 34082, 34937, 35416, 36347). The gravity survey extended 10 kilometres beyond the West Basin property claim boundaries encompassing several MINFILE occurrences including the Vine 17 showing (Figure 8, Assessment Report 34082). Post processing and modeling of the gravity data was conducted in 2017 to further constrain the prospective area for drilling (Assessment Report 37242).
