The limestones of the Peacock Copper are believed to be of the Helikian Gateway Formation (Purcell Supergroup) but this is not well documented.
Location Notes: Three adits are shown on 1971 soil survey maps (Assessment Report 3439). These are located on the steep eastern bank of Big Sand Creek, (very roughly) about 600 metres east from the Jessie (082GSW014) MINFILE plot which is plotted on the west bank of Big Sand Creek, and about 1500 metres northwest of the Peacock Copper (082GSW017) MINFILE plot. The words "Dump Mine" are marked immediately east of the adit locations. These three adits are likely related to Peacock Copper (Treasure zone) (082GSW017) as three such adits are reported in a 1997 report for Gallowai Metal Mining Corporation (dated September 22, 1997) (Property File Document (PFD 676699).
Old records indicate that although the Peacock Copper occurrence is a typical copper-bearing quartz vein similar to other showings in the area; it is distinctive in that the host lithology is a blue to greyish limestone. A vein of quartz with a near vertical dip varies from 5 to 25 centimetres in width and carries chalcopyrite, pyrite, and malachite. The Mona No.1 shaft, developed to 32 metres, was used to mine out a small pod of replacement sulphides (chalcopyrite and pyrite) on the hanging wall side of the vein at a depth from surface to about 4.5 metres. The final stope was about 3 to 6 metres in size.
From 1925 to 1926, 22 tonnes were mined, producing 5317 kilograms of copper and 1182 grams of silver (BC METAL MM00525).
WORK HISTORY
In 1971, soil grid survey was conducted for Rio Alto Exploration Ltd. on their Sand Creek prospect (Area B), southwest of Sand Creek Iron prospect. The survey located one major area of interest with coincident values in copper, lead, zinc and silver. The soil grid was completed over or near the Mountain (082GSW047), Jessie (082GSW014), Peacock Copper (082GSW017), and Don (082GSW048) areas.
In 1976, one diamond-drill hole (76-6) totaling 145.9 metres was completed on the Treasure Group Don (082GSW048) for R.H. Stanfield (Assessment Report 5906).
In 1982 an airborne electromagnetic and magnetic survey was carried out over large parts of the Bull River property on behalf of owner/operator R.H. Stanfield. Eight target areas were identified (Assessment Report 10570). The Dogwood 11 claim that contains the occurrence was part of the surveyed area.
In 1992 a helicopter borne DIGHEM survey over the Balsam, Cedar and Dogwood claims of R.H. Stanfield (Bul River Mineral Corporation Ltd.) was completed but appears to be just to the southwest of the Ross 2 occurrence (Assessment Report 23012).
In 2016, Purcell Basin Mineral completed 16.0 line-kilometres of geochemical surveying on grid covering the Peacock Copper (082GSW017) and Don (082GSW048) occurrences (Assessment Report 36586).
In 2017, an NI43-101 technical report for Purcell Basin Minerals Inc. processed and published Dighem airborne survey data from 1991-1997 surveys (Assessment Report 37195).
Refer to Bull River (082GNW002) for details of the greater Bull River property which contained 25 MINFILE documented mineral occurrences as of October 2022. Refer also to Don (082GSW048) and Jessie (082GSW014) for related information.
