The JJ West occurrence is located approximately 30 kilometres from Castlegar, 3 kilometres north of Highway 3.

Regionally, the property is underlain by Middle Jurassic Nelson intrusions, which are themselves intruded by the Middle Eocene Coryell batholith and numerous tertiary mafic dikes. The Nelson intrusions consist of porphyritic granite, granodiorite, quartz monzonite, monzonite and tonalite with minor diorite. The Coryell intrusions consist of coarse-grained porphyritic syenite and lesser granite, diorite and monzonite.

Mineralization occurs in 0.5 to approximately 2 or 3 metre wide shear zones, roughly trending north-south. The shear zones are through coarse-grained quartz monzonite and consist of pervasive silicification and traces of fine-grained disseminated metallic grains and tourmaline. The shears are cut by irregular 1 to 2 centimetre quartz veins with limonite-coated vugs and trace pyrite along fractures mostly replaced by limonite and/or jarosite. Shear zones are enveloped by up to 2 metre wide, partly silicified coarse-grained quartz monzonite with irregular pyrite aggregates and thin sericite shears. Selective sericitization, chloritization and red iron oxide- and limonite-coated fractures are observed. Chip sample C-17 assayed 1049 parts per billion gold and 7839 parts per million arsenic. One anomalous sample of 200 grams per tonne was found, but values of up to 1 gram per tonne are reportedly more common (Assessment Report 27877).

Tom Kennedy discovered the showing in 2003 through prospecting (Assessment Report 27877).

Between 2003 and 2006, Kootenay Silver conducted soil sampling, prospecting and mapping, as well as airborne magnetic and electromagnetic surveys.

In 2006, Astral Mining Corporation conducted a helicopter-borne geophysical (electromagnetic) survey on the area as a part of the JJ property.

In 2007, a trenching program conducted by Astral Mining Corporation targeted sulphide bearing, silicified shear zones in a road cutting at JJ West. The channel samples returned a maximum gold grade of 0.16 grams per tonne over 1 metre (Turner, A. (2008-03-27): Technical Report on 2007 Exploration at the Jumping Josephine Property). Rock samples were observed to be monzonite, syenite, diorite and microdiorite cut by a series of north-south striking faults and mafic dikes.

In 2013, Astral Mining Corporation Ltd. undertook detailed interpretation of past geophysical survey results, suggesting deep-rooted and extensive structural controls on geophysical anomalies and known mineralization (Assessment Report 33652).

After earning a 100 per cent stake in the Jumping Josephine property in 2014, Orex Minerals Ltd. conducted a prospecting, trenching, and drill program across the property, including work at MINFILES 082ESE275, 082FSW409, 082ESE101, and a new MINFILE occurrence named BZT (082ESE289).

At the JJ West occurrence, 2014 work included rock sampling and drilling 3 NQ holes (825 metres). One kilometre to the northwest, one additional hole (198 metres) was also drilled. Elevated gold and silver values were reported in the rock samples, up to 0.65 gram per tonnes gold and 1.8 grams per tonne silver. Narrow auriferous zones were intercepted in drill holes 14JD161 and 14JD162. Hole JD14161 returned 1.5 metres at 2.03 grams per tonne gold (112 to 113.5 metres downhole) within a zone of moderate sericite alteration hosting rare, thin, pyrite-bearing quartz veins. Hole 14JD162 returned 1.5 metres at 0.61 gram per tonne gold (53 to 54.5 metres downhole) within a broad shear zone hosting fine quartz veinlets. Following up on historical grab samples, a single hole (14JS159) was drilled approximately 1 kilometre northwest of the JJ West occurrence in an area referred to as the Borrow Pit. The drill hole intersected moderate to strong sericite alteration with weak to moderate quartz-pyrite stockwork veins, however no significant gold mineralization was encountered (Assessment Report 35457).
