Limestone of the Lower Cambrian Reeves Member of the Laib Formation outcrops in a series of bluffs on either side of the South Salmo River, just east its confluence with the Salmo River. These exposures lie at the south end of a band of limestone up to 1 kilometre wide extending northeast for 4.5 kilometres. Bedding generally strikes east to northeast and dips 35 to 55 degrees south.
The bluffs are comprised of fine to medium grained, thin bedded white and blue limestone with siliceous and dolomitic interbeds. Two chip samples analyzed as follows (in per cent) (J.T. Fyles, 1956, Samples 9266, 9267):
---------------------------------------------------------
| Sample | | CaO | | MgO | | Insolubles |
9266 53.90 0.86 2.06
9267 54.50 0.94 0.96
Sample 9266 was taken along a north trending bluff just north of the South Salmo River over a distance of 122 metres. Sample 9267 was taken across 36.6 metres up a bluff 120 metres south of the old highway bridge over the South Salmo River.
