Capsule Geology

The Starlight occurrence is located on Toad Mountain, about 12 kilometres south of Nelson. Minor production is recorded for this claim in 1937 (the 1981 figures are questionable). The claim adjoins the Victoria-Jessie property (082FSW173) to the south.

The area is underlain by sheared schistose augite basalt flows, breccia flows and subvolcanic intrusions of the Lower Jurassic Elise Formation (unit Je1 and Je4, Open File 1989-11), Rossland Group. These are intruded by plagioclase porphyry of the Late (?) to Middle Jurassic Silver King Porphyry. Shearing (Silver King shear) and metamorphism is prevalent in the area. Regionally, schists are host to northwest trending shears, parallel to foliation, which host quartz veins with sulphides.

The occurrence lies along the Silver King Shear Zone, the core of a fold of the Hall Creek syncline. The shear zone extends over 1000 metres in width. The area contains abundant sericite, chlorite, quartz, carbonate, hematite, and epidote alteration in discrete to pervasive zones.

A quartz vein up to 1.53 metres wide, within schists and volcanics contains disseminated and massive pyrite. Locally the zone is characterized by numerous quartz stringers and lenses.

The Starlight vein produced 10.8 tonnes which yielded 583 grams of gold, 2936 grams of silver and 200 kilograms of copper. Free gold is contained in the vein material.

Work History

In 2001 and 2002, Apex completed programs of soil sampling and rock sampling on the area. Eleven rock grab samples from the Starlight workings yielded values from 0.50 to 22.5 grams per tonne gold (Moose Mountain Technical Services [2021-07-19]: NI 43-101 Resource Estimate for the Kena and Daylight Properties).

In 2017, Prize Mining completed a program of geological mapping, prospecting, geochemical (rock and soil) sampling, a ground magnetic survey, 1180 metres of trenching, environmental (water) sampling and 18 diamond drill holes, totalling 2694.77 metres, on the area as the Daylight property. A 1-metre channel sample from trench E, located along the volcanic-hosted vein system a short distance southeast of the Starlight adit, yielded 42.5 grams per tonne gold (Moose Mountain Technical Services [2021-07-19]: NI 43-101 Resource Estimate for the Kena and Daylight Properties).
