The Pyromorphite Zone is located on Sommerfeld Ridge, south of Leadville Creek, approximately 22.7 kilometres northeast of Creston. The showing has been explored since 2010 by Fjordland Resources Ltd. as a part of the Big Kahuna property. Previous work was completed by a local prospector, Craig Kennedy, during the 1990’s and later Kootenay Gold Inc.
Regionally, the area is underlain by clastic sediments of the Middle Aldridge and Creston Formations, part of the Proterozoic Belt–Purcell Supergroup. A sequence of possible Cambrian age shallow- water sediments has been mapped in the north-central portion of Leadville Creek. Structure in the area is dominated by the northwest trending Leadville Creek Fault and northeast trending Old Baldy Fault.
Locally, rocks at this zone are argillically altered and brecciated Middle Aldridge formation quartzite and argillite.
Work History
During 2009, four samples taken from this zone returned up to 17382.5 parts per billion gold, 14 grams per tonne silver, over 10,000 parts per million lead, 2957 parts per million copper, 14113 parts per million arsenic and 823 parts per billion mercury from sample SK09 133 (Assessment Report 31586). The next year, sampling returned values up to 54.7 grams per tonne gold, 173 grams per tonne silver, and 13.4 per cent lead from pyromorphite bearing quartz veins in Middle Aldridge sediments (Assessment Report 31659).
In 2019, DLP Resources Inc. completed a program of geological mapping on the area as the JR and RJ properties.
