The Upper Good Hope (Upper Adit, Jag 44) occurrence is in a steep creek valley, east of Fiddler Creek and southwest of Mount Evans, at an elevation of approximately 2040 metres.
The area is underlain by quartzite and siltstone of the Mesoproterozoic (Middle) Aldridge Formation (Purcell Supergroup), intruded by meta-gabbro or meta-diorite of the Proterozoic Moyie Intrusions. Three or more of these sills, from 60 to 180 metres thick, strike in a northwest direction through the area for an aggregate length of 3.5 kilometres.
Locally, a diorite hosts a 1.6-metre wide quartz vein. Mineralization consists of pyrite and chalcopyrite and has been followed with an adit for at least 15 metres.
In 1973, a chip sample assayed 1.24 per cent copper over 1.2 metres (Assessment Report 4829).
Work History
Work on the Good Hope group prior to 1901 consisted of a 15-metre adit. In 1912, the Good Hope, Rose, and Toolips claims (Lots 9820-9822, respectively) were Crown-granted to Mr. C.H. Pollen.
The JAG 1-58 claims were staked in March 1972 by A. Hopkins, of Toronto. Mount Evans Copper Corp. Inc., incorporated in Ontario in May 1972, acquired 18 of the Jag claims. During this time a program of rock and soil sampling, geological mapping and trenching was completed on the claims. The following year, a program of rock, silt and soil sampling and a 0.2 line-kilometre induced polarization survey were completed.
In 1984 and 1985, Grom Resources completed programs of geochemical sampling, geological mapping and a 9.5 line-kilometre ground electromagnetic survey on the area as the Goodhope and Whitefish claim groups. In 1989, Yellow Band Resources completed a program of geological mapping and a 6.0 line-kilometre induced polarization survey on the area as the Evans 1 and Terra 3 claims.
In 2018, a prospecting program was conducted on the area as the Meachen Bend property by Kootenay Silver Inc. Also at this time, Paul Ransom conducted a program of geological mapping on the area as the Golden Larch property. In 2022, Amaroq Gold Corp. completed a 9.6 line-kilometre ground electromagnetic survey and a 303.0 line-kilometre airborne electromagnetic and radiometric survey on the area immediately east as the Sinclair and Golden Larch claims.
