The Anderson (Price's Pit or Golden Egg) occurrence is located on the eastern side of Sawmill Creek, approximately 1.3 kilometres north of its junction with Perry Creek.
Regionally, the area is underlain by mid-Proterozoic rocks of the Aldridge, Creston and Kitchener formations (Purcell Supergroup). These are intruded by mid-Proterozoic diorite and gabbro sills and dikes of the Moyie Intrusions. Cretaceous quartz monzonite and granodiorite stocks occur just off the property to both the east and the west.
Locally, chalcedonic quartz veins occur in argillaceous quartzites of the mid-Proterozoic Creston Formation (Purcell Supergroup). Mineralization includes specular hematite, pyrite, galena, sphalerite, chalcopyrite and native gold. A broad, north-trending, fault-controlled complex of felsite dike(s) with associated lensey greenstone dikes is the major structural feature. Quartz veins and lenses occur within the felsite and in host rock stratigraphy. Quartz veins within the felsite are concentrated near hangingwall and footwall contacts but also occur within the central part of the dike complex. The footwall rocks have been highly sericitized.
In 1987, a sample (37811) of vein fault material assayed 0.372 per cent lead and 4.02 grams per tonne gold, whereas a select sample (37812) of specular hematite assayed greater than 1.0 per cent lead, 11.80 grams per tonne gold and 524.0 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 17111).
In 1988, seven chip samples from an outcrop of quartz vein are reported to have assayed from 0.9 to 235.3 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 24289).
In 1995, rock chip samples assayed up to 107.2 grams per tonne gold and 63.0 grams per tonne silver over 5 metres (Sample B15; Assessment Report 24289). Sampling of a tunnel or decline, located on the north side of the pit and extending for approximately 17 metres, yielded up to 18.1 grams per tonne gold, 11.6 grams per tonne silver and 0.2 per cent lead over 0.36 metre (sample 577), and 0.7 gram per tonne gold, 127.9 grams per tonne silver and 12.0 per cent lead over 1.2 metres (sample 575; Assessment Report 24289).
In 2003, diamond drilling intersected anomalous gold values in thin quartz veinlets within and in the footwall margin of a felsite dike; one intersection of quartz vein material assayed 16.53 grams per tonne gold over 0.49 metre (DDH SAW-03-1; Assessment Report 27382).
In 2013, two rock samples (MKKG-063 and 064) from a newly exposed road cut, located south west of the pit, yielded 1.12 and 2.28 grams per tonne gold, respectively (Assessment Report 34197).
Records indicate that from 1937 to 1940 (inclusive), 381 tonnes of ore were mined, from which 5194 grams of silver, 313 grams of gold and 200 kilograms of lead were recovered.
Price’s Pit (also known as the Anderson or Golden Egg) is one of three known lode gold prospects within Sawmill Creek, each of which has seen minor historic production. Gold occurs within quartz veins, which typically also carry minor base metal and iron sulfides. The original discovery was made by trenching in the area of gold-bearing quartz boulders on surface. In 1938, the property holdings were known as the Anderson or Golden Egg group and consisted of the Golden Egg, Lucky Strike, Gold Brick, Twilight, Sunset, and Black Bear claims, all held J. J. Rollheiser, of Kimberley. In 1938, the group was under lease for five years (starting in 1938) to the Hall Brothers, of Marysville. In 1938, it was reported that the Anderson property had been under option to the Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company of Canada, Limited, for a short time. During that period, a 5-metre shaft was sunk at the face of a cut and three diamond drill holes were drilled.
In 1978, Meridian Resources completed a program of geochemical sampling and geological mapping on the area. During 1979 through 1985, Gallant Gold Mines completed programs of rock, soil and silt sampling, trenching, geological mapping and ground electromagnetic and magnetic surveys on the area as the Perry Creek property. In 1987, Chapleau Resources completed a program of soil, silt and rock sampling, trenching and geological mapping on the area as the Racki claims, Morgan property. In 1990, Kokanee Explorations optioned the property and completed a program of trenching, rock sampling and eight percussion drill holes. In 1991, a 2.8 line-kilometre ground electromagnetic survey was completed on the area as the Mill claims. In 1995, the area was prospected as the Price claim (Cornucopia group).
In 2003, seeking a bedrock source for the placer gold in Sawmill Creek and Perry Creek, Klondike Gold Corp. carried out a 273-metre, five-hole drill program on the Prices Pit gold property. The 2003 program tested a 130- metre section of a north-trending structure with felsic and mafic dikes and irregular lenses of quartz that locally contain high-grade gold. Further exploration in the area by Klondike Gold was to focus on the iron- oxide gold-copper potential, because related zones of iron oxide breccia that contained anomalous gold and copper values were encountered. In 2007, an airborne geophysical survey and five diamond drill holes, totalling 1601.71 metres on four targets, were completed. In 2012, Klondike Gold completed a program of rock and previous drill core sampling, prospecting and geological sampling on the area as the Quartz Mountain property.
