The Betts (Lot 3056) and Hesperus (Lot 3057) claims are located on the west slopes of Eagle Mountain, approximately 5 kilometres northwest of Grand Forks and east of Highway 3.
The area is underlain by limestone, greenstone and argillite of the Permian Attwood Group and sharpstone conglomerate and limestone of the Triassic Brooklyn Group.
Locally, at the Betts (L.3056) occurrence massive garnet skarn with chalcopyrite±pyrrhotite veins and disseminated chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite and pyrite are exposed at surface, whereas massive pyrrhotite mineralization has also been identified approximately 120 metres below the surface in underground workings.
Several hundred metres to the southeast, on the adjacent Hesperus Fraction (L.3057), disseminated chalcopyrite is hosted by a quartz-feldspar-pyrite (QFP) monzonite.
On the Iron Chief (L.1314S) Crown-grant, located adjacent and to the northwest, a quartz vein with visible gold is reported. Later work (2005) identified skarn zones hosting pyrrhotite and late quartz veins with coarse pyrite.
In 2005, two samples (12307 and 12309) from a historical pit and trench on Betts occurrence yielded 0.33 and 0.70 gram per tonne gold with 2.15 and 4.94 per cent copper, respectively, whereas a high-grade sample from the Betts tunnel assayed 0.18 gram per tonne gold and 2.72 per cent copper (Sookochoff Consultants [2021-03-15]: Technical Report on the CBC Property for Belmont Resources Inc.). A sample (12306), taken from the Hesperus fraction to the east-southeast of the previous samples, yielded 1.20 per cent copper (Sookochoff Consultants [2021-03-15]: Technical Report on the CBC Property for Belmont Resources Inc.). Also at this time, a sample (12312) from the Iron Chief occurrence, located to the northwest of the previous samples, assayed 2.40 grams per tonne gold, whereas another sample (12314) of coarse skarn with chalcopyrite, taken further to the northwest, yielded 3.6 grams per tonne gold and 6.74 per cent copper (Sookochoff Consultants [2021-03-15]: Technical Report on the CBC Property for Belmont Resources Inc.).
Work History
The claims were located in 1896 by E.E. Alexander. In 1903, the claims were held by the Betts & Hesperus Mining Co. The company drove a 250-metre adit with crosscuts and drilled over 900 metres.
In 1964, Value Line Mining Ltd. completed a program of ground magnetic, electromagnetic and self-potential geophysical surveys on the area as the Ruth E. 6-13 claims. In 1969 and 1970, Bayland Mines Ltd, completed programs of geological mapping and ground magnetic, electromagnetic and induced polarization surveys on the area as the Caledonia and Goat Mountain groups of claims.
In 1983, Kettle River Resources Ltd. completed a program of geological mapping on the area immediately east of the occurrence as the RB property. In 1984, Banqwest Resources Ltd. completed a program of geological mapping and soil sampling on the area as the April property. In 1986, Noranda Mining and Exploration Inc. completed a program of geological mapping on the area as the Eagle Mountain group. In 1987, Zephyr Resources Ltd. completed a soil sampling program on the area as the April claim group.
In 1998, a single drillholes, located approximately 100 metres southeast of the lower Betts adit, was completed.
During 2004 through 2006, the area was prospected as the CB Chance property.
In 2020, Belmont Resources Inc. completed a program of airborne LiDAR and magnetic surveys on the area as the Come By Chance (CBC) property.
