Chalcopyrite and pyrrhotite, with associated gold and silver values, occur in northeast-trending mineralized zones in andesite of the Upper Paleozoic Anarchist Group. The Anarchist Group is exposed in a north trending tectonic high, bounded to the east by the Rock Creek graben and to the west by dominantly Eocene granitic rocks. The Anarchist is intruded by numerous stocks and dikes, ranging in composition from diorite to granodiorite, and assumed to be part of the middle Jurassic Nelson plutonic suite. These rocks are unconformably overlain by the Eocene Penticton Group, comprising basal conglomerate and sandstone of the Kettle River Formation and overlying dominantly alkalic volcanic rocks of the Marron Formation. Coryell syenite stocks and dikes locally intrude Anarchist, Nelson and Penticton rocks.
Exploration in the vicinity of the Mayflower (Hornet Zone) includes soil sampling, prospecting and sampling from 1983 onward. In 2007, Bitterroot Resources Ltd. conducted a trenching program, with 23 separate trenches for a total of 1043 meters. Trenching outlined several sub-parallel mineralized zones that contained pyrite, pyrrhotite, arsenopyrite and subordinated chalcopyrite in quartz veining, quartz stockwork zones and siliceous, tourmaline-cemented breccias. Anomalous intervals in trenches that were generally oriented at right angles to the mineralized zones, returned assays that ranged up to 22.1 grams per tonne Au over 5.2 metres. Overall, three mineralized zones across approximately 200 meters, were projected to be continuous, or semi-continuous, for at least 350 meters strike length.
In the West Hornet Zone, a total of 312 metres in three trenches were excavated in 2007. The best assay intervals, taken parallel to the inferred trend of mineralization, were 3.54 grams per tonne Au across 3 metres and 0.34 gram per tonne Au across 6 metres (Assessment Report 30495).
