The Mount Hazel occurrence is located at the peak of Mount Hazel about 26 kilometres east of Teslin Lake.

Chalcocite, specularite and copper staining (malachite) occur as fist-sized patches in a deformed 0.9 metre thick bull quartz vein on the southeast side of Mount Hazel near the contact between crinkle quartzite of the Upper Devonian Big Salmon Complex (Mount Hazel Orthogneiss) and tuffaceous rocks of the greenstone unit (Paleozoic Big Salmon Complex). A similarly mineralized vein occurs on the northwest side of the peak, although it could be an along-strike continuation of the southeast vein.
