Capsule Geology

The Camp showing is located 40 kilometres south of Carcross, Yukon Territory at the southeast end of Tutshi Lake, near Moon Lake, about 70 kilometres west-northwest of Atlin.

The area is underlain by Devonian to Triassic greenschist facies rocks of the Boundary Ranges Metamorphic Suite (Stikine terrane), Upper Triassic Stuhini Group basaltic rocks, volcaniclastics and limestone, and Lower Jurassic Laberge Group sediments. These have been intruded by Late Cretaceous granites, and Triassic to Jurassic granitoid intrusions along the Kink Salmon fault. Both these granites and granitoids belong to the Coast Plutonic Complex. These granitoid intrusions occur a few hundred metres west of the Camp occurrence.

At the Camp zone, a northwest trending shear zone is associated with strongly anomalous gold geochemistry in soils and outcrops. It was tested by two drillholes in 1988. Strongly anomalous gold values in sheared mafic volcanics and granodiorite were encountered. The results suggest weak gold enrichment either associated with the shear zone or as part of a distal facies of volcanogenic sulphide deposition within a mylonitized volcanic unit. The anomaly appears to continue to the northwest for 2 kilometres to the Jessie showing (104M 027) on the Tut 1 claim. A chip sample taken along the same structure 470 metres northwest of drillhole 1 assayed 3.5 grams per tonne gold over 3 metres (Assessment Report 18651).

In 1988, drilling yielded intercepts of 0.130 grams per tonne gold over 18 metres in hole 1 and 0.146 grams per tonne gold over 64.5 metres in hole 2 (Aurora Geosciences Ltd. (2012-07-09): Technical Report – Golden Eagle Property). Some correlation occurs between anomalous gold and pyrrhotite, pyrite and/or quartz veinlets.

In 2005, drilling on the Camp zone yielded up to 1.51 and 1.47 grams per tonne gold over 1.5 metres each in holes GE05-01 and GE05-02, respectively (Aurora Geosciences Ltd. (2012-07-09): Technical Report – Golden Eagle Property).

Work History.

The first documented work on the Golden Eagle Property was in 1906, when Joe Bussinger staked the Great Northern claim group and discovered what is now known as the Jessie showing (104M 027), where exploration of the showing was limited to hand - and blast trenching and was not reported until 1929. In 1981, Dupont and Kennco staked the area between Tutshi - and Moon Lake based on encouraging results from a regional geochemical survey in the area. During the field season, a program consisting of geological mapping, soi-, silt - and rock sampling was conducted, however, the work was not recorded for assessment purposes. The claims were allowed to lapse in 1982.

In 1985, Noranda Exploration Company Ltd. initiated a regional exploration program in the area and followed up by staking the Tut claims in 1986 and 1987 to cover a large alteration zone and the source areas for gold-bearing float. The claims covered several old showings known as the Jessie/Great Northern (104M 027) and Big Thing (104M 071). An extensive geophysical and geochemical program, conducted in 1987, outlined two areas of interest (the Camp and Carbonate (104M 057) zones). In 1987, Noranda contracted Aerodat Ltd. to conduct an airborne geophysical survey over the property. The survey measured four electromagnetic frequencies, magnetics and two VLF-EM frequencies. In 1988, Noranda collected 153 soil -, 2 silt - and 77 rock samples, conducted an induced polarization (IP) survey and drilled two diamond drill holes. The IP survey identified a resistivity anomaly in the Carbonate zone that is coincident with the anomalous gold-in-soil zone. A total of 365.91 m of NQ drilling was performed in two drillholes in the Camp zone. The holes targeted the northwest trending gold-in-soil anomaly and IP chargeability high resistivity low. Noranda later allowed the claims to lapse.

R.H. McMillan staked the Golden Eagle 2 and 3 claims in 1999 and the Connor 1 claim in 2001. In 2001, Marksmen Resources Ltd signed a deal to option the property from McMillan. In September 2002, Marksmen conducted a program of IP geophysical surveying, mapping and rock sampling in the Carbonate zone and southern part of the Camp zone. In 2003, Marksmen observed the Camp zone rocks to be greenstone – greenschist facies metamorphic rocks and a rhyolitic volcanic with a ropy texture similar to primary flow features. No work was done on the Camp zone in the 2003 or 2004 exploration program. In 2004, Marksmen carried out a 670-kilometre airborne survey on its Golden Eagle property, recovering EM, magnetic and gamma ray spectrometry data. In 2005, Marksmen drilled two holes to test the Camp Zone.
