Two different zones of mineralization, 750 metres apart, were discovered in 1990 by Solomon Resources on its LJ claim in an area of Upper Triassic Stuhini volcaniclastics and basalts.
Zone 1 is characterized by pyrite-arsenopyrite in various combinations estimated from 2 to 10 per cent singly or combined with host veins in structures related to a 150 metre main fault with an azimuth of 178 degrees. They consist of proximal quartz-carbonate vein breccias 2 - 30 centimetres wide, and not more than 10 metres long, a 46 metre long by 50 centimetre wide resistant dark grey sulphidic silicified gouge section and an 84 metre long by a 30 to 2.0 metres wide quartz flooded breccia section. Both sections are within the main fault. The Zone 1 area is underlain by well bedded grey to green weathering siltstones and wackes (grit) and thick bedded to massive lithic wackes and coarse epiclastic breccias.
Zone 2 mineralization has a higher visible sulphide content estimated up to 10 per cent and localized into four quartz-sericite veins hosted in shears. Three of these veins are not more than 5 metres in length. The fourth vein could be up to 30 metres in length. All veins trend between 110 and 140 degrees and widths range between 4 and 25 centimetres. The best sample (a grab) yielded 2.1 grams per tonne gold, 1.5 grams per tonne silver and 0.9 per cent arsenic (Assessment Report 20433). The Zone 2 area is underlain by a coarse epiclastic unit; locally these rocks have been moderately to intensively carbonatized.
In 1990, Solomon Resources Ltd optioned the LJ mineral claim from Cominco Ltd. and collected 167 soils, 2 silts and 25 rocks. Cominco previously reported grades from chip samples of quartz-arsenopyrite veins of 22.4 grams per tonne gold over 1 metre, 40 grams per tonne gold over 0.2 m and 10.4 grams per tonne gold over 0.25 metre. These grades were not reproduced by Solomon. However, Solomon did identify two zones of mineralization. In Zone 1, an average of 16 grab samples yielded grades of 139 ppb gold, 0.78 gram per tonne gold Ag and 0.6 per cent arsenic (Assessment Report 20433). Zone 2, located 750 m to the northeast of Zone 1, was tested with five grab samples yielded an average grade of 0.9 grams per tonne gold, 1.46 grams per tonne silver and 0.3 per cent arsenic (Assessment Report 20433). Soil samples from this program suggest that these mineralized zones have limited widths and that the most prospective ground may be located to the west of the area worked.
