The Commander area is characterized by a pluton consisting of primarily monzodiorite of the Early Jurassic Texas Creek Plutonic Suite. This pluton is bounded by Paleocene to Eocene biotite granite plutons of the Sloko-Hyder Plutonic Suite. In the area of the Commander occurrence, these rocks are intruded by a small mass (less than 1 square kilometre) "diorite".

A sample of mineralized "granodiorite" containing 1 per cent pyrite and malachite stains, assayed 0.15 per cent copper (Assessment Report 20783). Granitic float found in the vicinity contained "strong" molybdenite and yielded greater than 0.1 per cent molybdenum upon analysis.

In 1990, Goldbelt Mines Inc. collected 18 rock, 48 silt and 99 soil samples on their Commander I-VII claims. Results from the 1990 field program delineated four areas of interest. Three areas of soil anomalies were found where barium in soils yielded values up to 418 parts per million. A fourth area of interest delineated a rock anomaly situated at the central part of the Commander III claim where one mineralized grab sample was taken.
