The Devils Club area is underlain by marine sedimentary and volcanic rock of the Upper Triassic Stuhini Group. The stratigraphy is intruded by Late Triassic granodiorite, Early Jurassic monzonitediorite to gabbro (Texas Creek Plutonic Suite) and Triassic to Jurassic syentite to monzonite (Copper Moutain Plutonic Suite).
Assays from 5 channel samples from a mineralized section 8.2 metres wide in one trench contained gold ranging up to 0.69 gram per tonne, silver to 96.0 grams per tonne and copper to 3.57 per cent (Northern Miner, August 3, 1967).
In 1989, Bellex relocated the Devil's Club showings and six previously excavated trenches were sampled. One metre chip samples were collected from the first five trenches and 3 metre chip samples were taken from the sixth trench. All six trenches consisted of highly sheared and strained granodiorite with pyrite 2 chalcopyrite at the contact with the andesites. Trench 3 yielded 0.47 per cent copper and 12.5 grams per tonne silver over 7 metres (Assessment Report 19904).
Work History
The JW property consists of 14 recorded claims named J.W. 1 to 14 extending north-south along the north fork of Jack Wilson Creek, which is a westerly flowing tributary of the Stikine River.
Kennco Explorations (Western) Limited apparently staked the J.W. claims 1-14 in about 1963. The property was subsequently surrounded by claims staked by Conwest Exploration Company Limited early in 1964. Magnetometer and geochemical work was carried out by Kennco in the summer of 1963. During 1965 a program of line cutting, magnetometer and induced polarization surveys, and geochemical soil-sampling was carried out.
In 1966 and 1967, Anuk River Mines Ltd. conducted geological mapping, hand-trenching and 212 meters of packsack drilling in 8 holes on their Devil's Club showings on the north side of Anuk River (page 4, Assessment Report 18114).
In 1988, Bellex Mining collected 180 rock and 13 silt samples. Samples (345568 and 245973) taken by Bellex Mining 1n 1988 were in the vicinity that they first designated to be the Devils Club showing. Grab sample #245568 taken from tuffaceous rock with chalcopyrite and hematite assayed 0.7 per cent copper and 0.035 gram per tonne gold. Grab sample 245973 taken from agglomeratic(?) rock contained greater than 1 per cent copper and 0.07 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 18114). In 1989, Bellex collected 315 rock and 326 soil samples. They found or investigated the Boundary zone, North Fork Creek (Central) zone, Boundary zone and Devils Club zone. Six old trenches at the Devil's Club Showing were located and sampled.
A 1990 diamond drill program by Bellex consisted of 5 NQ drill holes totalling 1392 metres. Maps shows holes 4 to 5 are situated on or around the Central zone.
