The Cot and Bull region is underlain by Devonian to Lower Permian rocks of the Stikine Assemblage. Cot and Bull rocks consist of tuffaceous to crystalline andesite, probably of Pennsylvanian age. Pink quartz monzonite forms large stocks in the region and locally intrude the volcanics. Quartz diorite, of unknown age, intrudes locally and with the quartz monzonite it forms the main rock type in this claim area. Intrusive rocks withing Stikine Assemblage are possibly related to the Middle Jurassic Three Sisters Plutonic Suite or the Middle to Late Triassic Stikine Plutonic Suite. Late Devonian granite of the Forrest Kerr Plutonic suite is mapped to the immediate east of the Cot and Bull. A large block of limestone, at least 300 metres by 150 metres, of possible Permian Age is included in the igneous rock. Both intrusive and volcanic rocks are cut by swarms of diorite dikes.
Chalcopyrite, bornite, pyrite and tetrahedrite occur in widely spaced fractures in all the above rock types. This mineralization also occurs at the contact of quartz diorite and an andesite dike. A sample of this contact zone over 20 centimetres assayed 1.66 per cent copper, 223.54 grams per tonne silver and 0.07 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 9479).
Work History
In 1986, Chevron Resources conducted a soil program on the Bud 1-6 claims that failed to outline areas of anomalous mineralization. In 1990, an exploration program on the Bud 1-6 claims by Armeno Resources comprised geological mapping, prospecting, soil (867 samples) and rock (252 (samples) geochemical sampling and limited magnetic and VLF-electromagnetic surveys. The Cot and Bull locality was visited by Armeno in 1990 and Map 6b (Assessment Report 21117) indicates local carbonate-cement breccia with minor pyrite and chalcopyrite. One sample was taken in the area at the time (sample 6203). The northern part of the Bud claims was previously covered by claims owned by Hecla Mining Company of Canada Ltd in the 1960s but there is no record of any work having been completed in that area. In 1981, a one-day prospecting trip made by Teck Exploration was made to the Cot and Bull claims at which time the Cot and Bull showing was examined and first documented (Assessment Report 9479).
