The Lady Jane area is underlain by Upper Triassic Stuhini Group rocks. These are mainly andesitic flows, breccias, and tuffs which strike east and have steep dips. A prominent alteration zone, approximately 400 meters wide and 1000 meters long, strikes at 60 degrees. Alteration consists of silicification and pyritization. The Lady Jane showing lies in the central part of the zone.
A system of northeast to northwest trending fractures cuts through a ridge crest. This oxidized fracture system is essentially a quartz and carbonate filled breccia zone. The carbonate minerals are calcite, ankerite and dolomite. Vein quartz is sparsely mineralized with pyrite, chalcopyrite and galena; carbonates contains galena and sphalerite. Specularite, malachite and azurite as well as sericite and chlorite are also observed with the veins. The sulphides occur as scattered grains and blebs.
The veins are up to 1.8 metres wide but pinch and swell over a short distance. The Lady Jane vein has been traced for a distance of 300 metres and a vertical range of about 90 metres. The strike is north and the dip is about 60 degrees to the west.
Average values from this occurrence are 1.2 per cent lead, 0.6 per cent zinc, 0.4 per cent copper, 1.7 grams per tonne silver and a trace of gold (Assessment Report 591).
Chip sampling of the trenches in 1990 obtained values of up to 1.72 grams per tonne gold, 93.9 grams per tonne silver, 4.85 per cent lead and 4.35 per cent zinc over widths up to 2 meters (Assessment Report 21480).
Work History
In 1929, F. Jackson staked a shear zone along Conover Creek containing zinc, lead, copper, silver and gold mineralization (Jackson/Bik/Conover Creek/Lady Jane occurrences, MINFILE 104G 009,025). During the period between 1929 and 1935 the showings were explored by many small open cuts.
In 1964, during the Stikine porphyry rush, the Lady Jane property was staked by a joint venture of Silver Standard Company and Asarco Ltd (Dirom, G.A. 1964). A program of prospecting and geological mapping was carried out, but the results were inconclusive.
The property was staked by C. Graf in 1982 and optioned to Brinco Mining Ltd in 1984. Brinco completed two soil sampling lines along the strike of the mineralized zone for a distance of 2 kilometres. In addition, other short soil sampling lines were made across the two groups of mineral showings (Lady Jane and Jackson).
During 1990, a field crew consisting of a geologist and a prospector located, mapped and sampled the trenches along the Lady Jane showing. In addition, two other alteration zones were sampled.
