The Windy Tarn showing is on a west facing upper ridge side approximately 4 kilometres south of the confluence of Unuk River and Gracey Creek. The location is approximately 57 kilometres southwest of Bell 2 Lodge on Highway 37 and 64 kilometres northwest of Stewart, B.C.

The Windy Tarn area is underlain by Upper Triassic Stuhini Group volcanic, volcaniclastic and sedimentary rocks intruded by diorite phase of the Stikine (or McQuillan) Plutonic Suite.

Approximately 400 to 500 metres north of the Golden Jade showing on the Jade 1 claim, prospecting in 1990 by South Unuk Gold Corp identified an area of quartz vein breccia hosted within a diorite intrusion. Veining was followed intermittently for 25 metres, pinching and swelling, with parts of the breccia zone attaining widths varying from 10 centimetres to 2 metres, Mineralization consists of 2 to 5 per cent disseminated pyrite in weak to moderately limonitic quartz. The host intrusive displays weak propylitic alteration probably of regional origin. A grab sample from this area assayed 1.88 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 21332).

The Golden Jade float showing occurs south of the Windy Tarn showing. Several pieces of near-source angular limonitic and mineralized quartz vein blocks were traced around the edges of a small and relatively narrow glacier. Mineralization consists of weak to massive pyrite and chalcopyrite in intensely fractured quartz. One sample assayed 44.98 grams per tonne gold, 37.0 grams per tonne silver and 6.47 per cent copper (Assessment Report 21332). Assessment Report 21332 reports 400 to 500 metres separation between the Windy Tarn and Golden Jade showing but documenting maps show about 150 metres of separation.

The Quill or Q-zone is located near the centre of the Quill claim which covered most of the earlier Jade 1 claim of Fest Resources, including the Windy Tarn area. The Quill zone contains abundant float with high grade gold and copper mineralization in a quartz vein system (Assessment Report 25819). The sulphide mineralization is often massive with up to 60 to 70 per cent chalcopyrite/pyrite.

Prospecting and sampling by Colorado Resources in 2016 east of the Windy Tarn showing along the east edge of the Max diorite resulted in the discovery of further mineralization. From about 275 to 500 metres east of Windy Tarn are east-striking, steep to vertical-dipping quartz veins and local quartz vein breccias with pyrite, chalcopyrite and possibly malachite that cut the Max diorite and nearby sediments. The best sample obtained from these veins assayed 5.51 grams per tonne gold, 1.32 silver and 0.27 per cent copper (Sample 2640784, Assessment Report 36656).

Work History

In 2006 and 2007, Hathor Exploration Ltd. completed a 7228.7 line-kilometre airborne geophysical survey on the area as the Pearly claims of the Iskut project. In 2008, Max Minerals Ltd. examined the property.

In 2016, Colorado Resources Ltd completed a reconnaissance exploration program on their KingPin Property which covered the Windy Tarn and 35 other MINFILE occurrences on the property. Work included the collection of 147 rock chip and grab samples and a total of 129 soil samples. At least six rock samples were collected by Colorado east of the Windy Tarn occurrence and 13 more east and southeast of the Fred occurrence (104B 231).
