Capsule Geology

Three stratigraphic assemblages have been mapped in the area: (1) Upper Palaeozoic sediments and volcanics of the Stikine Assemblage, (2) clastic sediments of the Triassic Stuhini Group, and (3) Lower Jurassic sediments and volcanics of the Hazelton Group.

Four plutonic suites intrude the above; (1) Late Triassic calc-alkaline intrusions coeval with Stuhini Group stratigraphy, (2) Jurassic Copper Mountain, (3) Jurassic Texas Creek and (4) Tertiary Coast Plutonic suite.

At the George showing, a poorly exposed outcrop of massive sphalerite-galena with pyrite occurs in a small creek near the top of a hill. A chip sample assayed 1 per cent zinc and lead with 60.3 grams per tonne silver and 0.16 gram per tonne gold over about one meter (Assessment Report 29673). The showing occurs at a pronounced break in the most pronounced magnetic linear defined by airborne Mag-EM survey. The area is known to contain sandstones and siltstones.
