Capsule Geology

Three stratigraphic assemblages have been mapped in the region of the Old Pit showing: (1) Upper Palaeozoic sediments and volcanics of the Stikine Assemblage, (2) clastic sediments of the Triassic Stuhini Group, and (3) Lower Jurassic sediments and volcanics of the Hazelton Group. Four plutonic suites intrude the above; (1) Late Triassic calc-alkaline intrusions coeval with Stuhini Group stratigraphy, (2) Jurassic Copper Mtn, (3) Jurassic Texas Creek and (4) Tertiary Coast Plutonic suite.

Massive and disseminated pyrite, pyrrhotite and sphalerite and galena occur in calcareous sandstones and siltstones at the Old Pit and Two Bit area. Hole 85-61 intersected 1.66 per cent zinc over a 2.6 metre interval and 34.97 grams per tonne silver over 1.8 metres (as reported in Assessment Report 29673). Thirty seven rock chip samples collected by Spirit Bear Minerals in the area of these showings were anomalous for Pb, Zn, Ag and Au in more than half the samples with highs of greater than 100 parts per million silver, 457 parts per billion gold, greater than 10,000 parts per million lead and greater than 10,000 parts per million zinc (Assessment Report 29673). Prominent MMI gold in soil anomalies lay near the Old Pit to George showings trend and to the southwest.
