The Gold Pond showing area is underlain by Devonian sedimentary and volcanic rocks of the Stikine Assemblage. The Devonian Forrest Kerr Pluton is in contact to the immediate west of the Stikine package. Plutonic rocks consist primarily of Late Devonian granite and diorite.
Locally, a strong, hydrothermally altered, northerly trending narrow breccia zone is hosted by a sequence of argillaceous tuffs and contains coarse chalcopyrite and pyrite mineralization. Mapping undertaken in 1995 indicated that the mineralization occurs at the intersection of pervasive iron carbonate alteration controlled by a broad zone of southeast trending shearing and a northerly trending cleavage which is parallel to the regional stratigraphy.
The 1994 sampling yielded values up to 34.29 grams per tonne gold associated with pyrite and chalcopyrite (Assessment Report 24156).
In 1990, Avondale Resources Inc discovered the Goose Pond showing and sampled it. In 1994, Abacus minerals hand blasted trenches in three areas along a 30 metre strike length of the zone. A total of 53 soil samples and 20 rock samples were collected from this area. In 1995, work by Meridian Peak Resource on the Goose Pond included mapping and sampling but the limits of the showing were not extended.
