Capsule Geology

The Ian 6 South area is underlain by a Devonian to Permian sequence of sedimentary and volcanic rocks of the Stikine Assemblage that have been intruded by at least three phases of plutonic rocks related to the Coast Plutonic Complex. Green intermediate volacanic rocks and argillite occur in the vicinity. Hornblende granodiorite intrudes the strata on the east and granodiorite intrudes to the north.

A minor silver-lead-zinc occurrence which was found during the course of the 1987 program was re-examined in 1988. This showing consists of small, discontinuous pods of sulphide mineralized tuffaceous volcanic material. Sphalerite, galena, and minor chalcopyrite occur in very fine (< 1mm) bands, and pyrite is disseminated throughout. Sample 87-VGR-038, which was taken from this locality in 1987, yielded values of 21.5 grams per tonne silver, 0.074 per cent copper, 4.63 per cent lead, and 2.86 per cent zinc (Assessment Report 18086). This showing occurs on the north flank of the structural lineament which traverses the survey grid.

Two separate showings with highly anomalous silver and copper values also were encountered along the same structural lineament, roughly 700 to 750 metres along strike to the east-northeast. The first showing is a vuggy, brecciated quartz vein carrying pyrite, chalcopyrite and pyrrhotite, in argillite. Sample 87-VSR-020, which was taken from this zone, yielded 21.1 grams per tonne silver and 2.74 per cent copper (Assessment Report 17149). The second showing in this vicinity is a 20 centimetre wide chalcopyrite, malachite, and azurite bearing quartz vein which cuts across limestone and argillite beds. Sample 88-VMR-05, which was taken from the highly mineralized footwall of this vein yielded values of 34.8 grams per tonne silver and 2.46 per cent copper (Assessment Report 18086).

In 1987, Hi-Tec Resource Management Ltd conducted a reconnaissance exploration program for Vanstates Resources Ltd. This program involved geological mapping, prospecting, soil geochemistry and stream sediment geochemistry (King, 1987).

In 1988, Hi-Tec conducted an exploration program on behalf of Pezgold Resource Corporation on the Ian 6 and 8 claim. A total of 138 rock samples, 332 soil samples and 5 stream sediment samples were taken on the subject property during the course of the 1988 program. A total of 7.2 kilometres of VLF-EM and ground magnetics surveying and prospecting were also completed.
