The GNC property, 3.5 kilometres southwest of Eskay Creek (104B 008), is owned by Prime Resources Group Inc. and Canarc Resource Corp. Drilling intersected mineralization within similar stratigraphy to the Eskay Creek mine. Hangingwall rocks are mudstones and andesites; footwall rocks are rhyolites. A 3.3-metre intersection contains 30 per cent semi-massive sulphides, principally pyrite, and pervasive carbonate alteration. Underlying this zone, the footwall rhyolite breccias are altered to chlorite and sericite, followed by a thick, sericite-altered autobrecciated rhyolite sequence. Separate 1-metre intervals assayed up to 0.66 per cent zinc, 0.37 per cent copper, 6 grams per tonne silver and 0.063 grams per tonne gold (GCNL #29 (Feb.11), 1998).

Related information to the George Cross News Letter (GCNL) that this MINFILE occurrence was initially based upon is given in the Work History below. However, no identical or elaborating documentation to that of the George Cross newsletter was found in assessment records. The only hole from a similar time period was too far north and contained nothing of significance.

Work History

In 1993, Homestake drilled one hole on the GNC 1 at approximately 409620 East, 6277200 North in order to test for Eskay Creek, 21B style mineralization (Assessment Report 23193). Drilling during 1991 and 1992 on this area (the McKay West Target) defined an anomalous area with gold, zinc, antimony and arsenic values in mudstone near the top of the rhyolite. No potentially economic concentrations of base or precious metals were intersected in Hole 93-33. In 1993, title to the GNC 1-3, CAL 1-3, COR 3-10 and ONA 2, 4 mineral claims is held equally at one third each by Prime Resources Group Inc., Stikine Resources Ltd. and Canarc Resource Corp. No Mack claims appear on the claim maps in 1993.

It appears that at some point, soon after 1993 and prior to Feb 2003, the GNC 1-3, IKS 1 and several other Tok and Kay claims became permanent lots attached to the Eskay Creek mine (104B 008).

In 1997, a drilling program on the Mack property by Homestake Canada was completed. One deep hole MP97-01 (6276980 north, 408590 east)) about 1 km east of the northern part of Tom MacKay Lake was recorded (Assessment Report 25434). The program was initiated to test the Hazelton Group stratigraphy underlying Bowser Lake Group sediments. A total of 1114.04 meters of NQ-2 core was drilled. MP97-01 consisted of a thick package of interbedded Bowser Lake Group conglomerates and mudstones. No mineralization was evident, and the underlying Hazelton Group stratigraphy was not penetrated. The Mack property, consisted of 24 mineral claims, totaling 43 units was grouped with other adjacent Eskay Creek claims in the area west of the Eskay Creek mine leases (mainly GNC 1 and 3) and covering the areas west and east of Tom Mackay Lake.

In 2002, a single hole was drilled by Homestake Canada Inc to a 992.12-metre depth in order to test a magnetic anomaly (at 6276148N 407593E) within the Bowser Lake Group sedimentary rocks east of Tom MacKay Lake on the Mack 20 claim. All of the grouped claims are held wholly or partially by Homestake Canada Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Barrick Gold Corporation. Andesite encountered in the hole was magnetic and was considered to be the source of the magnetic anomaly. No significant results were obtained.
