The CB showing is located south of the Lee Brant Glacier at an elevation of 1020 metres. The vein was located by prospecting the boulder train in the lateral moraine along the flanks of the Lee Brant Glacier and establishing the origin of quartz, sulphide bearing boulders. The area is underlain by the contact of the Eocene Lee Brant stock of the Coast Plutonic Complex and sediments of the Lower Jurassic Betty Creek Formation (Hazelton Group, or possibly of the Upper Triassic Stuhini Group. The vein cuts across hornfelsed sediments and quartz monzonite.
The showing consists of a pyritic quartz vein varying from 1.5 to 2.5 metres in width, trending 212 degrees and dipping from 77 to 81 degrees to the southeast. Contradictory text from the same report (Assessment Report 24965) states that the vein varies from 2 to 5 metres in width and was traced for over 100 metres along strike and 50 metres down dip. Mineralization consists of semi-massive to massive, medium to coarse grained pyrite. A preliminary grab sample yielded 4.53 grams per tonne gold and 50.6 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 24965). Chip sampling yielded one result of 2.31 grams per tonne gold over a width of 0.6 metre.
In 1996, the first comprehensive regional mapping, prospecting and geochemical survey was completed by Kenrich Mining Corp over most of the Corey property. Along with the surface work, 1200 kilometres of airborne magnetic and radiometric surveys were completed over the western half of the properly. During the regional surveys, four geologists collected a total of 387 rock samples, 234 moss mat samples and 75 stream sediment samples. Four major targets were located: HSOV (104B 387), CB, Sheelagh Creek (104B 389), and TM (104B 354).
In 2016, high grade angular float sample CB-16-053, was collected at and near UTM location 413597 East, 6251758 North, about 1.3 kilometres east-northeast of the CB showing. The sample is an assortment of azurite-stained quartz monzonite and quartz vein angular float pieces collected along the edge of a glacier over 50 metres. Many pieces have significant amounts of chalcocite, bornite and chalcopyrite. The mineralized float train was followed 235 metres to the east and 450 metres to the west. The source is suspected to be directly upslope, but possibly as far as 2.2 kilometres (bearing 17 degrees) from where a 5 centimetres cobble of pure chalcopyrite-bornite was recovered with adhering granite (Station CB704). Some float in 2007 was also noted to contain molybdenite and native copper (Appendix III Rock Sample Descriptions, Assessment Report 36739). Sample CB-16-053 graded 2.14 per cent copper, 0.117 gram per tonne gold, 80.7 grams per tonne silver, 0.0356 per cent arsenic, 0.149 per cent barium (Assessment Report 36739).
Work History
See Cumberland (104B 011) for details of the Corey property work history.
In 2016, C.J. Greig & Associates Ltd., on behalf of Eskay Mining Corp., conducted reconnaissance soil and stream sediment sampling in an area that has been mapped as Stuhini Group rocks, east of Ted Morris glacier on the southern part of the SIB property. Samplers collected 65 soil samples along a northwest-trending ridge located on the east side of the Ted Morris glacier. The soil line traversed an area mapped as Stuhini Group sedimentary and volcanic rocks. Samples were collected at 75 metres intervals along the line for a total line-length of about 4800 metres. Three stream sediment samples were also collected about 1 kilometre south of the soil line. A total of 126 rock samples were collected in a region encompassing about 35 square kilometres that surrounds the Ted Morris glacier. Areas sampled include Red Lightning (104B 605) and GFJ (104B 233) and areas farther south toward Ted Morris Glacier showing (104B 236).
