The Murdoch (Lauren Gold) showing is located on the Murdoch claims (Lots 3440 to 3446 inclusive), on the north side of Strohn Creek about 3 kilometres east of the Bear River Pass.

The area is underlain by Lower Jurassic Unuk River Formation (Hazelton Group) andesitic volcanics which strike north to northeast and dip to the west. An occurrence of galena is reported on the claims (Minister of Mines Annual Reports 1923; 1925).

Sampling and prospecting in 2007 on the Lauren Gold (Murdoch showing) confirmed that a vein is exposed along 5 metres of its length, is about 5 centimetres thick, and dips roughly 40 degrees north. It is laminated quartz +/- calcite with pyrite, galena and sphalerite. Though the vein is thin, it may extend laterally. Sample 261567 (aka 61567) was collected from a stockwork vein with a near vertical orientation approximately 80 metres east-southeast of the main vein; it may or may not be associated with the main vein but is similar in mineralogy. The sample assayed 13.2 grams per tonne silver, 0.30 per cent lead and 0.86 per cent zinc (Assessment Report 29548).

The Murdoch claims were staked in 1921 by McHugo and Douville. Work was reported on the claims during 1923-25.

During 2005 through 2010, Auramex completed programs of prospecting, geological mapping, geochemical sampling and airborne geophysical surveys on the area as the Bear River-Surprise Creek property.
