The Karen Creek occurrence is located near the headwaters of the informally named Karen creek, on the ridge between Croydon and Kliyul creeks. The area was staked by Teck Explorations Limited in late 1978 along with the Kliyul (094C 007) and Bear (094D 113) claims to the north.
The regional geology is similar to that of the Lady Diana occurrence (094D 092) which is approximately 1 kilometre to the south.
Locally, the occurrence is hosted in a faulted and fractured dioritic intrusive body, which cuts Upper Triassic Takla Group volcanics. The volcanics are predominantly andesitic in composition. Structurally, the area lies to the north of the informally named Karen Creek fault which strikes northwest (Assessment Report 21521).
The Karen occurrence consists of a zone of quartz stringers approximately 300 metres long and 50 metres wide, trending to the northeast. These stringers contain various amounts of pyrite and chalcopyrite. A grab sample from this zone assayed 14 grams per tonne gold, 20 grams per tonne silver and 0.340 per cent copper. Another grab sample assayed 10.4 grams per tonne gold, 14.9 grams per tonne silver and 1.99 per cent copper (Assessment Report 21521).
On March 5, 2021, NorthWest Copper Corp. (formerly Serengeti Resources Inc.) and Sun Metals Corp. announced that they had completed their previously announced merger.
In 1992 Noranda carried out 1:5,000 scale geological and alteration mapping and in 1993, they drilled 6 reverse circulation holes on the Kliyul skarn zone (Assessment Report 23033) and followed up with an airborne magnetic, EM, and radiometric survey that extended to the south (Assessment Report 23379). This airborne survey also covered (or nearly covered) 25 MINFILE occurrences including South Soup (094D 105), Lady Diana (094D 092), Karen Creek (094D 145) and DBC (094D 177).
Refer to Croy (094D 015) and Soup (094D 105) for related geological and work history details of the Croy-Bloom property held by NorthWest Copper Corp. (Serengeti) from 2002 to date (2021).
