Capsule Geology

The Porphyry Creek Molybdenum occurrence is located on the ridge separating Croydon and Porphyry creeks, 2 kilometres above Kliyul Creek, approximately 110 kilometres northwest of the community of Germansen Landing.

No geological information is available on the occurrence. Mapping (Open File 1993-2), however, shows that it may be hosted in the Late Triassic to Early Jurassic Aiken Lake Intrusive Complex mafic-ultramafic body which intrudes volcanic rocks of the Upper Triassic Takla Group (Plughat Mountain Formation).

Mineralization at the Porphyry Creek Molybdenum is inferred from nearby occurrences (Porphyry Creek (094C 007) located 500 metres south). Molybdenite is found in quartz-carbonate plus/minus potassium feldspar veins and stringers, west of Croydon Creek.

The area was originally staked in 1963 by Rio Tinto as the Kliyul (094C 007) and Bear (094D 113) claims before being restaked by Teck Explorations Limited in late 1978.

In 1990, Teck Explorations Ltd. conducted an exploration program over the large Porphyry Creek property claims which covers the Porphyry Creek Molybdenum showing. The program involved mapping at 1:10,000 scale, prospecting, and contour soil sampling. A total of 558 rock, 2377 soil/talus fines, 22 silt, 74 moss mat, 7 pan and 10 water samples were collected in the initial evaluation.
