The Carp 11 occurrence is located west of Tudyah Lake and approximately 22 kilometres northwest of the community of McLeod Lake.
Regionally, the area is underlain by undivided sedimentary rocks of the Cambrian Atan Group; mudstone, siltstone, shale and fine clastic sedimentary rocks of the Ordovician to Mississippian Earn Group; calc-silicate metamorphic rocks of the Upper Cretaceous to Eocene Wolverine Complex and Paleogene to Neogene granitic intrusive rocks.
Locally, a long trench was excavated on the Carp 11 claim in 2007 to expose zinc mineralization associated with skarns formed at the contact of granodiorite intruding into calcareous sediments and argillites. An excavator was used to expose 200 metres of outcrop along an old road.
In 2007, a 3.05-metre interval from a trench assayed 1.88 per cent zinc with greater than 1 per cent lead, whereas grab sampling of a 0.5-metre boulder above the trench and at the base of a steep hill yielded 7.88 per cent zinc indicating extension of this zone to the north (Assessment Report 29357).
In 2021, a grab sample of chlorite-altered carbonaceous metasediment hosting stringers of sphalerite, galena and pyrite from the occurrence area assayed 1.74 per cent lead, 1.34 per cent zinc and 34.2 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 39660).
Work History
Chevron conducted regional exploration in the area in the mid to late 1970s.
In 2004 and 2005, Mountain Boy Minerals Ltd. prospected sampled the area as the Carp claims. In 2006 and 2007, ATW Venture Corp. completed programs of prospecting, soil and rock sampling and trenching on the area as the Carp property.
In 2020 and 2021, Golden Planet Mining Corp. completed a regionally extensive program of prospecting, geological mapping, geochemical (rock, till and soil) sampling and a 4851.0 line-kilometre airborne magnetic and electromagnetic survey on the area as the Rider property.
