Capsule Geology

The area is underlain by the southeastern end of the Late Triassic to Early Cretaceous Hogem Intrusive Complex. In this region, the Hogem complex rocks are determined to be Early Jurassic (Fieldwork 1991; Open File 1992-4).

In 1964, Asbestos Corporation Limited put down three holes, totalling 175 metres, on their Dip claims (Property File - Stevenson, 1965). Petrographic analysis of drill core showed the intersected rock to consist of quartz diorite, syenite and peridotite (Property File - Carswell, 1964). The peridotite is strongly chloritized and veined by epidote and calcite and consists of about one third magnetite. The quartz diorite is also strongly chloritized and altered. A 2.13-metre drill intersection assayed 0.16 per cent copper, 21.88 per cent magnetic iron and 0.28 gram per tonne gold (Property File - Vertical Cross Section, 1964; Certificate of Assay, 1964).

In 1969, H. Veerman completed an exploration program on the area containing the occurrence. The program included line cutting, magnetometer, Electromagnetic 16 surveys and soil sampling. Geophysical surveys showed the presence of anomalous zones in locations where the soil sampling program failed to find distinctive anomalous zones.

In 1991 to 1992, Westmin Resources Limited completed an exploration program on the area of the occurrence including various geochemical and geophysical surveys. Anomalous zones of copper and gold were identified.

In 2005, Serengeti Resources Inc. conducted geochemical and geophysical surveys on the property containing the occurrence. The results showed a copper soil anomaly near the occurrence.

In 2006, Serengeti Resources Inc. conducted drilling on the property containing the occurrence. No significant results were reported. Weak values of copper and gold were noted.

In 2011, Serengeti Resources Inc. conducted an exploration program including line cutting, IP surveying and Ah soil sampling. An aeromagnetic high anomaly, and a z-tipper axis electromagnetic target area was observed in the area surrounding the occurrence.
