Lower to Middle Jurassic Hazelton Group volcanics comprised mainly of andesitic to rhyolitic flows, tuff and breccia are intruded by a Cenozoic Babine Intrusion consisting of granodiorite and associated biotite-feldspar porphyry dikes. Chalcopyrite and pyrite occur as disseminations and as fracture fillings in the porphyry intrusion and marginal to the contact zone.
Work History
The Cortina 1-52 claims were held By Nittetsu Mining Co., Ltd in 1970-1971. A reconnaissance induced potential survey over 13.8 kilometres and a geochemical soil survey (407 samples) were carried out in 1970. Work in 1971 included geological mapping, an induced potential survey over 8.7 kilometres, and 244 metres of rotary drilling in 2 holes.
In 2012, an aeromagnetic program was conducted over the Flute and Lennac properties by Riverside Resources (BC) Inc. The total covered area was 813 square kilometres and the total survey line coverage was 4,444 line kilometres (Assessment Report 33032, 33707F). The Cortina occurrence was covered by this survey.
