The host rocks are mainly Lower Jurassic Hazelton Group volcanics of the Nilkitkwa Formation. They are mainly green and red tuffs which exhibit generally flat-lying bedding planes containing pyrite, sphalerite, and other minerals. The bedding tends to converge in the west in an anticlinal structure. Mineralization appears to occur in certain horizons marked by a change in the formation and rusty rock.

On the Mammoth claim a vein striking west and dipping steeply south, can be traced in the volcanic rock for approximately 91 metres. The vein averages about 30 centimetres in width and contains pyrrhotite, arsenopyrite, and sphalerite with a minor amount of galena. To the west, the vein narrows to approximately 10 centimetres and consists mainly of quartz and pyrite with a minor amount of chalcopyrite.

WORK HISTORY

The Homestake claim was included in ground optioned to R.W. Wilson and Sons in about 1930. The Mammoth (Lot 7249), Butte (Lot 7250), and Homestake (Lot 7253) claims were Crown-granted to Peter Schufer in 1933. The claims were among those acquired by Sil-Van Consolidated Mining and Milling Company, Ltd., in 1950. The company name was changed to Sil-Van Mines Limited in 1957 and to Dorita Silver Mines Ltd in 1969. No work other than open cutting has been reported.

In 2011, a surficial exploration program was completed on the Hudson Bay Mountain property by Lions Gate Metals Inc. from June to August 2011. Focus was given to locating and testing historical showings and investigating areas outlined by the 2008 Quest West airborne survey. Historic mineral occurrences on the property are: King Tut [093L 087] (prospect); Bonanza [093L 096] (showing); Silver Lake (L.7239) [093L 097] (Past Producer); Iron Vault (L.5754) [093L 098] (Past Producer); Mammoth (L.7249) [093L 100] (Prospect); Copper Queen (L.5751) [093L 101] (Developed Prospect); Josie (L.7251) [093L 229] (Prospect); Trade Dollar 2 [093L 230] (Prospect); and Silver Lake 2 (L.7240) [093L 231] (Past Producer).

Silt samples were collected from creeks within and draining the property and several soils grids were completed over areas of interest. A total of 122 rock samples were collected and submitted for assay over the 2011 field program. Samples were collected from areas of known mineralization as well as new areas. Results obtained from samples collected from known showings support historical results. Rocks samples were collected from King Tut (093L 087), Iron Vault (093L 098), Copper Queen (093L 101), Josie (093L 229), Silver Lake 2 (093L 231) and Silver Lake (093L 097). Efforts were made to locate the Mammoth, Rachel, Vancouver and Bonanza showings but were considered unsuccessful. The above mineral occurrences are briefly outlined in Table 2.
