At the Silver Heels showing, a dike 15 to 18 metres wide with a north strike and an east dip of 75 to 80 degrees occurs in andesite of the Lower Jurassic Telkwa Formation (Hazelton Group).

In the andesites on the west side of the dike, about 4.6 metres of mineralization consisting of chalcopyrite, specularite, and pyrite in a gangue of quartz and altered country rock was exposed. A 1917 sample across 3.6 metres assayed 34.29 grams per tonne silver, 2 to 3 per cent copper, and trace gold (Minister of Mines Annual Report 1917, page 117). About 1.2 metres of chalcopyrite and specularite mineralization was reported from the east side of the dike.

In 2008, soil samples were collected from the Silver Heels showing (1.4 kilometres north of the Duchess) and yielded maximum values of 0.196 per cent copper and 0.0042 per cent molybdenum and a quartz vein trending 025 degrees/75 west dip, 600 metres east of the Silver Heels, assayed 2.35 per cent copper and 142 grams per tonne silver from the wallrock (Assessment Report 31515).

WORK HISTORY

The Silver Heels and Whispering Wind located claims were held by the Telkwa Mining, Milling and Development Company, of Seattle, from about 1907. Exploration work was limited to a few open cuts.

The Jefferson-Dockrill Syndicate, financed by New York interests, held the claims in 1917; no work was reported at that time.

Norcan Mines Ltd acquired 255 claims in the Joker and other groups in 1966; the Joker claims may include the Silver Keels showing. By an agreement of August 1970 Norcan optioned a 50 per cent interest in approximately 130 claims to Pathfinder Resources Ltd. for an expenditure of $50,000 in exploration work prior to 1971. The company name (Norcan) was changed in December 1972 to Accent Resources Ltd. Additional assessment work was carried out by Pathfinder to keep the main claims in good standing into 1975.

See Duchess (093L 066) for details of the work history of some of the Howson Basin showings which include Princess (093L 061), War Eagle (093L 062), (Evening (093L 064), Silver Heels (093L 065), (Duchess (093L 066), Countess (093L 067), Tom ((093L 068) and Starr (093L 069).

Refer also to King (093L 041) for general information on the El Toro property, a large property that was worked by Lions Gate Energy Inc from 2007 to present (2015) and encompassed a very large area including the Howson Basin area.
