The Gem showing is located about 10 kilometres south-southwest of Endako and is on the Endako mine (093K 006) property.
The geology of the region consists of: 1) a Mississippian to Triassic Cache Creek Group oceanic volcanic and sedimentary assemblage 2) the Upper Triassic dominantly mafic volcanic Takla Group 3) the Lower to Middle Jurassic Hazelton Group mafic to felsic volcanic and sedimentary rocks 4) the Upper Cretaceous to Lower Tertiary Ootsa Lake Group sedimentary and volcanic rocks and 5) the Oligocene and Miocene Endako Group. The region has been intruded by the Lower Jurassic quartz monzonite to granodiorite Topley Intrusive Suite, Upper Jurassic plutons of the Francois Lake Suite and plugs and stocks related to Upper Cretaceous and Tertiary volcanism.
The showing occurs in an area underlain by the Endako quartz monzonite phase. This is one of five intrusive phases recognized on the basis of texture and composition in the Francois Lake Intrusive Suite.
Mineralization consist of pyrite with minor associated molybdenite which occurs within a shear zone cutting the quartz monzonite.
Work History
In 1966, Amax Exploration Ltd. completed a program of geochemical (soil and heavy mineral) sampling and geological mapping on the area as the Gem claims.
In 1970, Endako Mines Ltd. completed a program of soil sampling and a 6.7 line-kilometre ground magnetic survey on the area immediately east of the occurrence as the Oval claims.
In 1980, Placer Development Ltd. completed five percussion drill holes, totalling 290.0 metres, on the Oval claims, located approximately 1.5 kilometres east-northeast of the Gem occurrence. Drilling yielded intercepts of up to 0.017 per cent molybdenite over 54 metres in hole R-337 (Assessment Report 8460).
In 2016, Thompson Creek Metals Co. Inc. completed a minor program of rock, silt, and soil sampling on the northern portion of the Endako property and immediately north of the Gem occurrence. A rock sample (14646), taken approximately 600 metres northeast of the Gem occurrence, yielded 0.009 per cent molybdenum (Assessment Report 36325).
In 2018, Thompson Creek Metals Co. Inc. completed a 17.5 line-kilometre induced polarization survey on several areas of the Endako property including the area of the Gem occurrence.
