The Paw showing is located near the end of the Kluskus-Malaput Forest Service road, approximately 2.3 kilometres north-northeast of the east end of Johnny Lake.
Regionally, the area is underlain by volcanic rocks of the Middle Jurassic Naglico Formation (Hazelton Group) which have been intruded by quartz dioritic rocks of the Upper Jurassic Laidman Batholith.
The occurrence consists of a single outcrop of medium-grained, equigranular granodiorite to diorite. Fracture controlled and disseminated sulphide mineralization consists of 3 to 4 per cent pyrite and traces of molybdenite and chalcopyrite. Geological mapping by Grunenberg outlined the presence of a granodiorite intrusive body with related hornfelsing (potassic alteration) to propylitic alteration envelopes. Associated stringer and disseminated mineralization was discovered in the intrusive and country rocks.
Samples of these rocks assayed up to 0.079 per cent copper, 0.078 per cent molybdenum, 0.083 per cent zinc, with elevated values of silver and gold (Assessment Report 24166). Soil sampling by Grunenberg outlined a 1 kilometre elongate multi-element anomaly.
Work History
The showing is covered by the Paw 1 sixteen-unit claim block owned by Perry Grunenberg. The claim was staked for the first time in July, 1992.
In 1994, owner Perry Grunenberg conducted an integrated geological, geochemical, and geophysical program on the Paw claims (Assessment Report 24166). This work is summarized in assessment report dated January 1995. This program culminated in: the collection of 294 "B" horizon soil samples on surveyed grids, the collection of 4 silt samples from the grid area, the collection off 39 rock samples, and 20 kilometres of magnetometer and VLF-EM surveys over the entire grid, and geologic mapping along grid lines at 1:10,000 scale. In 1995, Grunenberg completed a 2 line -kilometre ground magnetometer program. In 1997, Grunenberg dug 3 pits and collected 3 soil samples.
In 2014, New Gold Inc. completed a program of silt and till (indicator mineral) sampling on the area as part of the Blackwater and Capoose properties.
