Capsule Geology

The occurrence is located 17 kilometres west of the northern end of Sigutlat Lake on Ramsey Creek.

The region is underlain mainly by the Paleozoic to Tertiary Coast Plutonic Complex consisting predominantly of crystalline rocks which exhibit a variety of fabrics ranging from pre-to post- kinematic. Paragneisses of (?)Paleozoic age, younger deformed metasediments and volcanics related to the Stikinia Terrane are interspersed within the plutonic complex. The northeastern part of the Bella Coola map area is underlain primarily by mafic volcanic and sedimentary rocks of the Jurassic Hazelton Group. These rocks are variably deformed containing both northeast and northwest trending structures.

The Boom showing consists of pyrite, chalcopyrite and molybdenite mineralization associated with quartz veins and fractures within hornfelsed Hazelton Group andesitic rocks. The veins range from a trace to 10 centimetres in width and are primarily exposed in a creek bed. Mineralization also occurs in quartz diorite and quartz monzonite which has intruded the volcanic rocks.

The Sku claims were located on Skuce Creek to cover a number of copper occurrences north of the Noosgulla pluton. Locally, chalcopyrite and molybdenite are associated with pyrite that occurs in quartz veins and fault zones were a grey medium grained quartz diorite has intruded other volcanic rocks.

Another (un-named) mineralized showing outcrops in a creek, at an elevation of 1650 metres, about 2.4 kilometers to the northeast of the Boom showing. Mineralization consists of azurite, malachite, chalcopyrite and tetrahedrite, the latter two occurring in fractures and as disseminated grains in an altered fractured volcanic rock. It was reportedly, discontinuously, exposed for 18 metres up the bank and for a width of 6 metres.

During 1967-1970, Kerr Addison Mines Limited held the Boom 1-118, Wilf 1-18 and Sku 1-18 claims. Work included geological mapping, a ground magnetometer survey, soil sampling, and six diamond drill holes totaling 1245 metres. In 1969 an induced polarization survey was conducted. In 1970, three diamond drill holes totaling 166 metres were completed.
