The Dog South occurrence is located on the southwestern side of Spanish Mountain, at an elevation of approximately 1200 metres and approximately 1.8 kilometres north of the north end of Nina Lake.

Regionally, the area is underlain by augite, augite-olivine basalt, tuff and flow breccia with minor greywacke, mudstone and conglomerate. This sequence is underlain by argillites, slates, quartzites and phyllites. All units are part of the Upper Triassic Nicola Group.

Locally, a rusty, 9 centimetre wide quartz vein with well-developed honeycomb structure hosts sheared galena and native gold.

In 1989, a sample (74493-3) assayed 8.13 grams per tonne gold and 17.0 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 18989).

In 2006, a rock sample taken from area is reported to have yielded greater than 10.01 grams per tonne gold (Singh, B. (2008-02-11): Technical Report on the Spanish Mountain Property).
