The X4 occurrence is located south of the Bonaparte River, approximately 2.8 kilometres northeast of Mount Grant and 23 kilometres east-southeast of 70 Mile House.
The area is underlain by Nicola Group greenstones, which are generally Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic andesitic to basaltic volcanic rocks. The Nicola Group rocks are exposed in a window through Miocene to Pleistocene alkaline plateau basalts of the Chilcotin Group, which blanket much of the Cariboo Plateau.
Locally, mineralization is described as greenstone with some pyrite crystals, calcite veining and chlorite alteration.
Work History
In 1991, a prospecting program was completed on the X group of claims by Mr. Joel Thomlinson. This work included 77 rock samples and 188 soil geochemical samples. Samples yielded assays of 0.201 per cent copper (sample X0021) and 2.81 grams per tonne gold (Sample X031; Assessment Report 21253).
During 2006 through 2008, Candorado Operating Company Ltd. completed programs of soil sampling, seven diamond drill holes, totalling 1584.2 metres, and a 409.0-line-kilometre airborne geophysical survey on the area as the Rayfield River property. In 2007, a lone drillhole (784-07-01) yielded 0.11 per cent copper over 3.2 metres (Assessment Report 30271).
In 2020, Kermode Resources Ltd. completed a minor program of prospecting, geological mapping and rock sampling on the area. A rock sample (108058) from the X4 occurrence area assayed 7 grams per tonne silver and greater than 1.00 per cent copper (Davison, J.G. [2021-03-15]: Technical Report on the Vidette Lake Project: The X and Yard Claim Groups, Vidette Lake Area, South-Central Mining Region, B.C.).
