The Math occurrence was originally based and roughly located on a showing of bornite in a quartz vein, reported along with meagre information (Geological Survey of Canada Paper 68-33, Map 5-1968). Its likely location and geological setting may be more accurately deduced from more recent mapping completed during exploration work (Assessment Report 20860).

Middle to Upper Triassic intermediate to mafic volcanics and sediments of the Cadwallader Group are intruded by quartz diorite intrusions of the Late Triassic Cadwallader plutonic suite. The Math showing occurs roughly 500 metres west of the contact with a quartz diorite intrusion. The area lies between two major northwest-striking faults, the Yalakom and Tchaikazan faults, along the northeastern margin of the Coast Plutonic Complex.

Outcrop is limited to a short ridge top, exposing andesitic tuff, porphyritic andesitic flow, and minor basaltic flow breccia. The rocks contain steeply-dipping, northwest and northeast-striking shear zones. They are moderately to locally intensely silicified, and also have propylitic alteration. Mineralization is partly hosted in quartz veins.

A1990, grab sample by Noranda Exploration was taken from a sheared andesitic tuff, with a vertical foliation striking 130 degrees. The sample contained 10 to 15 per cent malachite, 2 to 3 per cent azurite, 2 to 5 per cent covellite, and a trace of bornite; it was analysed at 2.45 per cent copper and 58.9 grams per tonne silver (Sample 117131, Assessment Report 20860). In 2015, Tchaikazan Resources conducted prospecting and sampling about 1.75 kilometres due east of Butler Lake with the intent of relocating the copper-silver mineralized structure discovered by Noranda in 1990. Two samples were collected with sample MA15002 grading 2.39 per cent copper and 64.5 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 36102).

WORK HISTORY

In 1990 and 1991, Noranda completed programs of rock and soil sampling, geological mapping and ground and airborne geophysical surveys on the area as the Newmac claims. In 1998, Ascot Resources Ltd. and Canevex Resources explored the area. In 2004, Scott Geophysical completed a program of ground magnetic and induced polarization surveys on the area.

In 2015, Tchaikazan Resources examined the Math showing, which was staked as the MATHEX claim Two rock grab samples were collected for analysis.

In 2019, Tchaikazan Resources prospected their Blake Ext claim in the area southwest of the Math showing, finding similar mineralized outcrop as to that at Math. The new occurrence zone was subsequently called the Blake showing.
