The Cam-Doc West occurrence is located on the west side of the Adam River, approximately 3.1 kilometres southwest of the west end of Tlowils Lake.
The area is underlain by Upper Triassic Quatsino Formation (Vancouver Group) limestone, which overlies Upper Triassic (Vancouver Group) Karmutsen Formation andesitic flows and tuffs. The limestone is intruded by a dacite porphyry dike that is chlorite altered and heavily oxidized. Weak bleaching of the limestone occurs up to 1 metre from the dike.
Locally, skarn-like siliceous replacement zones of limestone adjacent to the contact with a pyritic-dacitic feldspar-porphyry dike is mineralized with pyrite, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite, lesser sphalerite, and rare galena. The sulphides occur as massive pods and stockwork-like networks of fracture fillings and disseminations.
Later reports (2019) indicate that the limestone at this site appears to be sandwiched between Karmutsen basalts along a north-south–striking normal fault coinciding with the Adam River and are more likely to be lenses of limestone within the Karmutsen Formation, unless the fault structure forms a graben.
In 1942, a chip sample (No.14) assayed 2.7 grams per tonne gold, 51.5 grams per tonne silver and 1.7 per cent copper over 2.74 metres. Another chip sample (No.13), taken from a short adit located a few hundred metres to the north, assayed 3.4 grams per tonne gold, 85.8 grams per tonne silver and 5.4 per cent copper over 1.22 metres (Assessment Report 8190). In 1988, sampling of the area yielded up to 0.66 per cent copper, 13.7 grams per tonne silver and 2.16 grams per tonne gold (sample 17704; Assessment Report 17755).
In 2019, two samples (19067 and 19068) of basalt with malachite and chalcopyrite from the west side of the Adam River yielded 46.90 and 69.40 grams per tonne gold, 94.9 and 77.2 grams per tonne silver with 9.54 and 8.10 per cent copper, respectively, whereas two samples (19035 and 19069) of basalt containing chalcopyrite-pyrite±malachite taken approximately 40 metres southwest of the previous samples yielded 7.79 and 6.92 grams per tonne gold, 76.0 and 128.0 grams per tonne silver with 4.15 and 13.85 per cent copper, respectively (Wasteneys, H. Also at this time, a sample (19166) of malachite-azurite–stained basalt, taken approximately 650 metres southwest of the main Cam-Doc West zone, yielded 1.80 per cent copper and 4.3 grams per tonne silver (Wasteneys, H. [2019-07-25]: NI 43-101 Technical Report on the Adam West Property, Northern Vancouver Island, British Columbia).
In 2020, a rock sample (27254) of mafic volcanic hosting amygdule fillings of bornite, chalcopyrite and malachite, taken approximately 650 metres southwest and upslope of the main zone, yielded 1.36 per cent copper (Assessment Report 39283).
Work History
The area has been explored in conjunction with the Cam - Doc (MINFILE 092L 180) occurrence. In 1919, Cominco completed a program of surface trenching and 21 metres of drifting on the area. In 1926 and 1927, six diamond drill holes were completed. In 1971, Western Standard Silver Mines completed a program of geological mapping and soil sampling on the area as the M 1-37 claims. In 1979, B. Taylor completed a program of geological mapping, rock sampling and a ground magnetometer survey on the area as the Dik and Dok claims. In 1980, Five M Resources completed a program of soil sampling, geological mapping, and a magnetometer survey. In 1988, Stetson Resources completed a program of rock and silt sampling on the area as the Dave claims. Later that same year, Welcome North Mines prospected the area. In 2004, Hillsborough Resources completed a program of geological mapping and channel sampling on the area as the Jake 1-12 claims. During 2018 through 2020, Altum Resource Corp. completed programs of prospecting, geological mapping, geochemical (rock and soil) sampling, a 3.5 line-kilometre induced polarization survey and a 361.0 line-kilometre airborne magnetometer survey on the area as the Adam West property.
