The Star 24 (Teeta Creek Main) occurrence is located on the north side of Teeta Creek, approximately 2 kilometres southwest of the creek mouth.
The area is underlain by andesitic to rhyodacitic lava, tuff and breccia of the Lower Jurassic Bonanza Group. The Bonanza Group volcanics have been intruded by granodiorite stocks of the Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite.
Locally, chalcopyrite, molybdenite and wide-spread pyrite are reported to occur over an approximate area of 300 by 1000 metres, where highly altered diorite, quartz diorite and later porphyry dikes intrude tuffs and andesites of the Bonanza Group. Some of the intrusive phases are porphyritic. Numerous barren dikes are also reported. Early potassic alteration is present in the quartz diorite as patchy to pervasive brown biotite±magnetite, and local magnetite-chalcopyrite veinlets. Potassic alteration is variably overprinted by grey sericite-(chlorite)-pyrite, with local patchy carbonate. Marcasite, sphalerite, chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite and pyrite were reported in 1975 drillcore (Assessment Report 5997).
In 1968, drillhole 68-3 is reported to have yielded 0.23 per cent copper over 87 metres, starting at surface (Assessment Report 36483).
In 1975, drillhole 75-1 is reported to have yielded 0.256 per cent copper over 146 metres (104 to 250 metres down hole; Assessment Report 36483).
In 2016, sampling to the south of Teeta Creek extended the mineralized main zone yielding up to 0.170 per cent copper from a sample (P553821) of diorite hosting quartz-chalcopyrite veining (Assessment Report 36483).
In 2019, 12 rock samples from the occurrence area yielded from 0.032 to 0.216 per cent copper and trace to 0.016 per cent molybdenum (Assessment Report 38407).
Work History
In 1967 and 1968, the Quatsino Syndicate completed programs of prospecting, geological mapping, geochemical (soil and stream sediment) sampling, a ground magnetometer survey, trenching and five diamond drill holes, totalling 887 metres, on the Teeta Creek copper project. In 1975 and 1976, Cities Services completed a diamond drill program consisting of six holes totalling 2017 metres.
In 1984, Teriton Resources completed a program of soil sampling, geological mapping and ground geophysical surveys on the area. In 1987, Esso Resources completed a program of rock, silt and soil sampling on the area as the Teeta 1 claim. In 1989 and 1991, J.R. Billingsley prospected the area as the JRB 1-3 claims. In 1993, Great Western Gold completed a program of geochemical sampling and ground geophysical surveys on the area.
In 2013, J.R. Billingsley completed a program of geological mapping and structural analysis on the area as the Quatsino King property. In 2016, Seven Devils Exploration Ltd. completed a program of prospecting and rock sampling on the area as the Teeta Creek property. In 2019, Arcwest Exploration Inc. completed a program of geological mapping and rock sampling on the Teeta Creek property.
