The R occurrence is located in the upper drainage of a small creek flowing into the western end of Julian Cove.

The area is underlain by Bonanza Group andesitc tuff which is locally epidote and calcite altered, and hosts minor pyrite with disseminated chalcopyrite. The volcanics are intruded by small isolated granodioritic plutons of the Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite.

During 1970 through 1972, Celtic Minerals completed programs of soil sampling and geological mapping on the area as the R and Su claims. During the same time, Green Eagle Mines completed programs of airborne electromagnetic and magnetic surveys on the area as the GE and Pan claims.
