The Hep (Cypress) occurrence is located west of Hepler Creek and approximately 1.7 kilometres southwest of the western end of Nahwitti Lake.

Regionally, the area is underlain by northwest-trending belts of basaltic volcanics and carbonate sedimentary rocks of the Upper Triassic Karmutsen and Quatsino formations (Vancouver Group) and mafic volcanics and sediments of the Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic Bonanza Group (Holberg volcanic unit, Nahwitti River wacke and Parsons Bay Formation). These volcanic and sedimentary rocks have been intruded by granodioritic rocks of the Early to Middle Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite.

Locally, andesite flows and tuffs and felsic tuff of the Bonanza Group are intruded by quartz monzonite. The volcanics have been largely propylitized and some units have undergone argillization and silicification. A chlorite-epidote-zeolite assemblage is well developed in the propylitized volcanics. Chloritization is pervasive but weak and is controlled by fracturing. Epidote is present as specks and veinlets. Zeolites, generally in veinlets, are controlled by jointing and shearing and are abundant near volcanic-intrusive contacts. Silicification is minor and is related to small, elongated intrusive bodies. Pyrophyllite is present in a small outcrop of breccia.

Pyrite is found in all the rocks along fractures and as fine disseminations. Disseminated chalcopyrite and lesser bornite accompany pyrite in the volcanics. Molybdenite generally occurs along fractures in andesite. Magnetite can be present in association with the sulphides.

The 1988 Prospectus for Moraga Resources states the HEP zone, consisting of copper-molybdenum mineralization located at the intersection of two shear zones, is estimated to contain approximately 45 350 tonnes grading 0.80 per cent copper (Jones, 1988).

In 2005, a rock sample (380101) assayed 0.668 per cent copper, 0.014 per cent molybdenum and 17 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 28375).

In 1962, BHP-Utah Mines staked the area as the Hep claims. In 1964, a foot trail was cut to the claims and nine trenches were excavated. During 1965 through 1977, BHP-Utah Mines completed programs of soil and rock sampling, geological mapping, ground geophysical surveys and 146 diamond drill holes on the Expo and Hep claims. In 1982, BHP-Utah Mines completed a program of rock and soil sampling and a ground induced polarization survey on the area. In 1988, Moraga Resources Ltd. and BHP-Utah Mines completed a program of geological mapping and rock sampling rock sampling on the area.

In 2005, Luminar Resources Corp. completed a program of rock, silt and soil sampling, geological mapping, a 2687.0 line-kilometre airborne electromagnetic survey and 18 diamond drill holes, totalling 3154.0 metres, on the area.
