Capsule Geology

The Pilgrim (L.2035) occurrence is located on a north facing slope, south of the Marble River between Victoria and Alice lakes.

The area is underlain by the Upper Triassic Vancouver Group, Quatsino Formation limestones which have been intruded by granodiorite stocks of the Late Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite.

At the occurrence, Upper Quatsino limestone has been intruded and altered by quartz diorite. Aplite, quartz porphyry and mafic dikes are present. The main diorite body of the Alice Lake Stock lies nearby to the southeast. Mineralization consists of massive replacements of sphalerite, pyrite, pyrrhotite, arsenopyrite, galena, quartz and calcite, occurring in the west of anticlinally folded skarned limestone. The orebody dips steeply on surface but flattens and thins out at depth.

Ore reserves are reported as 46,266 tonnes of proven ore and a similar amount of probable ore, both grading 8.7 per cent zinc with "some contained cadmium" (Clancy, 1975).

Reserves on the Catherine claim (Lot 2034) were reported as 3630 tonnes at 0.69 gram per tonne gold, 34.28 grams per tonne silver and 12.7 per cent zinc (George Cross Newsletter #59, 1978).

Two mineralized grab samples assayed up to 10 per cent zinc, 8.8 per cent arsenic (EMPR Bulletin 101, page 175).

In 2017, a sample (J488620) of massive sphalerite and lesser carbonate (?) and minor quartz (?) assayed 14.75 per cent zinc, 0.17 per cent copper, 52 grams per tonne silver and 0.62 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 37127).

In 2019, a rock sample (39721) of massive pyrrhotite, sphalerite, arsenopyrite and possible bornite assayed 9.58 per cent zinc, 0.29 per cent copper and 50 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 38642).

Work History

In 1963, Consolidated Exploration completed a program of soil sampling, geological mapping and a ground magnetometer survey on the area. In 1968, Alice Lake Mines completed a program of airborne geophysical surveys on the area. In 1973 and 1974, Zeballos Development completed a program of stripping, trenching, magnetometer surveys and 40 percussion drill holes, totalling 750 metres. This work was focused on the P Fraction of the Catherine (L.2034) claim. During 2017 through 2021, Harco Holdings Ltd. completed minor programs of prospecting, geological mapping and rock sampling on the area as the Pilgrim property.
