The Memekay East (Cooper Creek) occurrence is located west of Cooper Creek, approximately 1.5 kilometres south of its junction with the Memekay River.
The area is underlain by sediments of the Jurassic Harbledown Formation (Bonanza Group) or Triassic Parson Bay Formation (Vancouver Group) and basaltic volcanic rocks of the Triassic Karmutsen Formation (Vancouver Group). These have been intruded by dioritic intrusives of the Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite.
Metasedimentary rocks in contact with mafic intrusive rocks are exposed in logging cut-block roads in the Memekay River area.
Locally, quartz vein stockworks with copper- sulphides are hosted in Upper Triassic Karmutsen Formation volcanic rocks. The sulphitic quartz stockwork occurs in the volcanics over a 20- metre interval along a road cut. Chip samples yielded values of 0.599 per cent copper, 0.018 per cent zinc and 1.840 grams per tonne silver over 20 metres; including 1.420 per cent copper, 0.030 per cent zinc and 4.0 grams per tonne silver over 6 metres (Minland Resources (Jan. 17, 2005): Summary Report on the Memekay Property for Minelan Resources by Jacques Houle, P.Eng).
Other copper-gold sulphide occurrences, Thunder and 4th of July, are reported to be located on ridges between Cooper and Kay creeks to the east. No other information is available.
The Memekay East (Copper Creek) occurrence was discovered during ground prospecting by Minland Resources prospecting partnership in 2001. The showing and immediate area was subsequently mapped and re-sampled in December 2004.
