The NUMBER 4 occurrence is located on an alpine ridge extending north from Mount Barbour to 1 kilometre south of Tenquille Creek, approximately 22.5 kilometres north-northwest of Pemberton, B.C.
The area is underlain by andesitic to dacitic volcanic flows and pyroclastics and a sedimentary sequence of siltstone, sandstone, conglomerate and thinly bedded limestone, all belonging to the Upper Triassic Cadwallader Group, and present in a large northwest trending roof pendant. Small bodies of Jurassic to Tertiary Coast Plutonic Complex diorite and unidentified, light green, occasionally porphyritic dikes intrude the pendant rocks.
The main mineralized section of the Number 4 showing is a 1000- by 50- metre gossanous area consisting of several north-trending, sub-parallel shear zones, with conjugate shears in several other directions. Chalcopyrite, sphalerite, galena, tetrahedrite and malachite in quartz veins are associated with silicification, quartz veining and stockworks, and erratic high gold and silver values.
In 1982, a grab sample assayed 42.8 grams per tonne silver (Property File - Tenquille Resources Ltd. [1987-06-05]: Statement of Material Facts #79/87).
In 1983, samples are reported to have assayed up to 17.9 grams per tonne gold and 139.8 grams per tonne silver (Property File - D.A. Chapman [1987-07-27]: News Release - Tenquille Resources Ltd. - Joint venture agreement on the Tenquille Lake property).
In 1987, assays ranged up to 6.8 grams per tonne gold and up to 5 per cent zinc. The best fully documented sample was R1089, which contained 4.35 grams per tonne gold, 177.9 silver per tonne silver, 0.66 per cent copper, 0.30 per cent lead and 0.70 per cent zinc (Assessment Report 17261).
The area has been explored since the 1920’s. In 1952, National Consolidated Base Metals Company examined the area. In 1961, Phelps Dodge completed a program of geological mapping on the area as the Tenquille claims. In 1969, the area was examined as the D group. In 1982 and 1983, Tenquille Resources completed programs of ground geophysical surveys, prospecting, trenching and sampling on the area as HIAG claims. In 1987, Ajax Resources completed a program of rock and soil sampling, geological mapping and ground geophysical surveys on the area. In 1989 and 1990, New Camp Resources completed programs of rock, silt and soil sampling and ground geophysical surveys on the area as the Zul property. In 1990, Teck Corp. staked the Apollo, Sun and God claims of the Sungod property which covered the Gold King prospect. In 2003, the area was staked as the Gold King property by J.T. Shearer, who conducted geological mapping and prospecting over the Sungold, Number 4 and Li-Li-Kel areas in 2005.
